All the discussions of scents in this book makes me think @skazka should read it. #TheChosenAndTheBeautiful #nghivo
i'm listening to #TheChosenAndTheBeautiful by #NghiVo, and I'm really really enjoying it. Jordan's got a GREAT character voice, and there's something about the way the fantasy touches are used that's really interesting.
With the fantasy novella "A Mouthful Of Dust," author Nghi Vo is once again letting us travel with Cleric Chih and their hoopoe companion Almost Brilliant as part of Vo's "Singing Hill Cycle." But as Vo explains in this exclusive interview, this trip was actually written "ages ago."

Nghi Vo's THE BRIDES OF HIGH HILL is volume #5 of the Singing Hills series, which continues to be good. The Cleric Chih finds themself riding with a prospective bride Nhung and her social-climbing parents, intent on negotiating her marriage to the wealthy Lord Guo. At Lord Guo's capital, there are guards everywhere, the kitchen servants are frightened and reticent, and the Lord's son is mad and kept restrained… but he can provide a cryptic warning to Chih. What's the secret of the estate? This was a fun Gothic story, featuring a sinister estate, cruel and fabulously wealthy lord, and mysterious secrets that Chih and Nhung have to investigate.

Anmeldelse af The Brides of High Hill, af #NghiVo. Kortroman. 2024. Hugo-finalist.

voodoocactus's review of The City in Glass

5/5: Oh my heart, what a book! I fell in love with the language around page three. Just…read this: The days clipped shorter and shorter until midwinter, when Vitrine could breathe in at dawn and exhale at dusk, and --days stretched like cats–, and It turned out to be the roof of the mayor’s house, which contained under it three stories, a venal man, a clever woman, a set of variable children, and assorted servants that were mostly up to no good, and If she had her way, all libraries would be arranged like this, promiscuous, free to mingle, and truth found everywhere and nowhere at all. Haunt...
