Thinking about underground fantasy societies. How would such cultures go about without ready access to wood? What do carpenters in Menzoberranzan use to make tables of? #worldbuilding #ttrpg #rpg #fantasy
@auguryignored Trees that grow underground, possibly strange and warped ones because they grow in the light of whatever the cultures use for light. Maybe stolen from the surface and mutated to live underground. Honestly making everything mushrooms seems a bit dull.
@auguryignored Chitin and stone are perfectly functional craft and build materials. The fibre from deep roots could be cured or woven. I also wouldn't write off plants that exist in the dark. The carnivorous ones could have beautiful grains.

@auguryignored I am writing an underdark section of my current campaign. this is what I've been reading recently...

Flora of Menzoberranzan

@Aqua_Unicorn This is awesome. Permission to possibly steal bits and pieces? :)
@auguryignored it's not mine but if it were, I'd share it all with you.
@auguryignored One could carve stone, or set mages to transmuting sculpted mud furnishings into stone. Terrified humanoid prisoners positioned to hold up glass tabletops and then petrified- this one is very Drow-coded. 😂 Giant mushroom stalks could be carved into furnishings too, reminds me of Dwarf Fortress.
