Well I found out I have Lyme Disease an hour ago. Just what I wanted for summer. Made it almost 50 years of outdoor living avoiding it to get struck down now.

Watch out for ticks everyone.

@That_One_Guy

Oh no! What do they do for that? Major antibiotics? I hope you get well soon.

@joyce
Yeah. They are using an older potent antibiotic. Just bad luck.
@That_One_Guy oh. No! I was just going to post a warning about ticks this year. It's bad. I pulled 2 off me this morning. Took 2 doxycyclines as a preventative, but I'm still worried.
@LJ
That's what I'm on. I've pulled two off this year, the second gave me it to me. Apparently ticks are very bad this year.
@That_One_Guy I'm kind of mad at myself. I was up late & didn't shower before bed last night - where I would have found the ticks before they attached. I know better. Sigh
@LJ
It's been several years since I've seen one so I got lax in checking myself. My new apiary apparently has them.
@That_One_Guy how did you find out?
I've had multiple infections cured with antibiotics, but many more bites..
I know what an "erithema migrans" looks like, but it's pretty scary!
@brnrd
They diagnosed it off the rash and did blood work.
@That_One_Guy hoping for a speedy recovery for you!
@That_One_Guy for anyone reading this. Look at the pictures in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erythema_migrans
If you see these rings around a bug bite, go to your doctor stat
The antibiotic treatment is way better than suffering Lyme's disease!

@brnrd @That_One_Guy

Just a heads up that it isn't always a ring - mine wasn't.

But mine was angry, purple, and quickly getting HUGE, along with a weird fever, so I got it checked out early.

The CDC has (had?) a gallery showing a variety of rashes that it may look like. And mine was in there.

@jztusk @brnrd @That_One_Guy
...and sometimes there's no ring/rash at all, or it can take a very long time to show up.

@brnrd @That_One_Guy

I remember a bite ring like that 30 years ago and didn't think much about it, too busy to realize the significance of one side of that leg going numb and other painful muscle symptoms for several months. I must be lucky or being highly physically active and it went away.

I believe I tested for the antibodies several years ago and negative. I might test again, because I definitely remember that bite mark ring ...and I'm getting old now, definitely don't want a dormant pathogen striking back with a vengeance.

@brnrd
And just to add on, you don't need to have the ring to have Lyme. Many people who get Lyme from a tick bite never get one. So, while the ring is a clear indicator, the absence of one does not mean it's clear.
@That_One_Guy
@That_One_Guy 😳Hope your recovery goes well.β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή
@That_One_Guy well wishes and speedy recovery . It can be treated. πŸ€—πŸ™πŸ»
@Theosuwb
Thank you. I'm on medication now.
@That_One_Guy
Ticks suck. Wishing you a thorough recovery!
@That_One_Guy @maaikees Oh no I’m so sorry:(
@nirak
Thanks. Another life challenge
@maaikees
@That_One_Guy Sorry to heathat, hope you get the right treatment.
@wyliecoyoteuk
Start heavy antibiotics this morning.

@That_One_Guy Damn, sorry you got bit. Hopefully you get treated before it spreads.

Remember fedibody, wear light, long pants when hiking or walking through tall grass, wear close-toed shoes, wear ankle or leg socks, and most importantly, shower yourself in bug repellant!

@mast0d0nphan
I was working beehives when I picked them up I believe. I don't spray anything on myself. I'm looking into treating my clothing.

@mast0d0nphan

I blouse my trouser legs into my socks. Seems to help. Doesn't look elegant, but neither does a bullseye rash.

@That_One_Guy

@SoftwareTheron
Ironically I did have my pants bloused into my socks. Not because of ticks though, I was dealing with angry bees. Something else you don't want up your trousers.
@mast0d0nphan

@That_One_Guy

Absolutely! You're a braver man than me, for sure.

@mast0d0nphan

@That_One_Guy ah geez, that stinks! I hope the meds do the trick. A couple of friends of mine have the Alpha-Gal syndrome from tick bites. Ticks are horrible.
@moelassus
I started meds this morning.
@That_One_Guy oh,thats not good. But its good you're diagnosed and hopefully you can now get it sorted
@That_One_Guy Damn, sorry to hear that. My brother-in-law had it about 20 years ago and it wasn't nice. Hang in there and get well soon!
@That_One_Guy Noooooo! I'm so sorry, Brian - and I hope that you're able to manage it effectively so that it doesn't cause you tooo much trouble
@amyfou
Thank you. I'm on medication, time will tell.
@That_One_Guy that sucks ass. I managed to avoid it even after occasionally having ticks actually embedded in my arms and legs. Hrm.
@the_turtle
I've avoided it close to 50 years. Just bad luck really.

@That_One_Guy I am in my mid 60s and lived most of my life in rural areas. I must not taste very good. Probably why mosquitoes don't bite me much, either.

But I was once licked by a giraffe.

@the_turtle
I've been bitten by most of the Missouri wildlife unfortunately. I was a curious kid on a farm.

Mosquito don't seem to bother me either. We're having a high tick year.

@That_One_Guy

Awh no!

So sorry to read this. How frustrating for you.

I hope you make a full and rapid recovery.

@That_One_Guy

Thanks for the reminder, and get well soon. Let us know how you get on.

@That_One_Guy Sorry to hear that. I got Lyme disease almost three years ago, and I got the antibiotics really quickly. It was July and my summer holiday was about to begin. I was found allergic to Amorion, so I needed to take Doximycin, which is stronger and worse. I had to wear long sleeves through the July heat, since my skin was really irritated by the sun. I haven't noticed any symptoms, so I hope the meds worked and I got off mostly unharmed. Made me really wary of those guys. Get well!
@minnanen
I'm on Doxycycline 100mg. The sun was starting to irritate me today, more my eyes though. I'm hoping I caught it early.

@That_One_Guy Treated clothes has worked very well for me. That and checking behind the ears!

Hope the drugs do the trick. Apparently it’s an extra-bad year.

@That_One_Guy Ugh. Get well soon! πŸ€

@tc_morekindness
Yeah, not the start to summer I was looking for.

Thank you
