GIMP - GIMP 3.2 Released

Release notes for GIMP 3.2

@GIMP Really looking forward to upgrading to GIMP 3 for #CMYK support.

Today I was preparing a book cover with GIMP 2.1 and the CMYK separator plugin but it's pretty limited compared to what's coming in GIMP 3.

I love it when new software releases give you features you actually need instead of anti-features to extract more money. ❤️

@GIMP Congratulations to the team! Thank you for this great release!

@GIMP
Are those like linked smart objects? Layers that point to files? Because that is the single biggest feature that keeps me hogtied to Photoshop.

I sure hope it's possible to scale each linked layer in different ways. That's something that even Photoshop has not figured out how to do yet. I don't always want to use bicubic scaling. For example my pixel art requires nearest-neighbor scaling. My inking layers need to use bilinnear scaling to recreate traditional anti-aliasing.

@humbird0 @GIMP Yes, that's exactly what link layers are. And you should be able to scale each link layer independently of the others.
@humbird0 @GIMP the use of the word hogtied, especially discussing a program called GIMP, will never not be hilarious to me
@humbird0 @GIMP, generally, there are ways to accelerate development of @GIMP, notably coding and donating to developers.

@GIMP

New release is still working great with my 2010 Core 2 Duo. Thanks GIMP team!
👍👍👍

@GIMP I have to try gimp
@GIMP vector layers sounds like it could be similar to Macromedia Fireworks? 🤞🏻
@walkermatt haha it’s been too long to remember, sorry! but in GIMP the vector layers build on paths.
@GIMP looking forward to giving it a try. Thanks to everyone involved.
Dear @[email protected], I freaking LOVE you! Thank you.
@GIMP Although I still have misgivings about the name of this project, I do very much appreciate the power and capability provided by it.
@VA3DSO Yep, it's a shame how many contexts I've been unable to use GIMP in. I love it for my hobby work, but it's been incompatible with professional and educational contexts just because the authors wanted to name it after a form-fitting full-body sex-torture fuck garment.
@lynndotpy Where I'm from, it is slang for a disabled person.

@VA3DSO Yep, same here.

In the early 2010s I was aware of the sex slang but not the ableist meaning when I asked my drafting instructor, who was paralyzed and used a wheelchair, if I could download and use GIMP for something.

Having had never heard of this obscure piece of software, he very understandably was not happy with that!

@GIMP Congratulations! 🎉
@GIMP Thank you! 🫡
@GIMP, congratulation and many thanks for another great release with essential improvements. Vector and link layers are eating up the cake of non-libre graphic software, so we all can be more free 😎
@GIMP Awesome stuff, with vector layers merged does this mean a circle/shape tool is coming soon? 👀

@GIMP Got one in #Debian Testing. Great release!  🍻 🎉
@GIMP oh, you still keep that ableist name. Can't look at the new version then. :(
@[email protected] Still using a slur as a name, still not using your shit. Fuck off.
@GIMP I'll check it out when I see the name of the project finally isn't an ableist slur. Then I can be confident this is free software for everyone, not free as-in Ableism Welcome. It's disappointing, better luck next version 🫡
@GIMP vector layers!
@GIMP
Finally vector layers !
#GIMP

@GIMP please change the name to not a slur. I can't use this in a professional setting.

This and Source Extractor, but at least I can just use the full name for that

@GIMP
Wow, linked layers and vector layers are awesome!
A big thank you to all the GIMP developers!

@GIMP

Can you give it a better name?

@GIMP Are you going to intruduce a beautiful and user-friendly interface ? 🤔

@Angelina you are welcome to file specific suggestions or issues on our UX repository, although “beautiful” is a bit subjective :)

GIMP is primarily aimed at people who will be using it often, which changes somewhat the meaning of “user-friendly” but we also are not tryin to make GIMP unfriendly.
