Americans, not other countries, paid Trump's tariffs in 2025

President Donald Trump has repeatedly said foreigners would pay for his import tariffs. A new report says Americans picked up most of the tab.

USA TODAY
@JonChevreau 🇨🇦 Too bad most Americans didn't do their research, and trusted Orange when he said the exporting countries would pay them.

Just like Mexico pays that expensive wall...
@hans because of the wall, every single Spanky 2.0 voter KNEW he was talking out of his ass. He has had a track history of removing trade markets, hurting economy, wanting to destroy affordable health care…
@Carolyn That's why I still can't get my head around the fact that this grifter was elected a second time.

Everybody with more than 2 brain cells knew he was a liar, an open racist and misogynist, a fraudulent business man who had lost billions and a fucking convicted felon!

The alternative choice was a woman who had a history of serving society and no criminal record.

How on earth did the American people think that this orange mobster was the better choice?? 😱
@hans I still remember the horror of seeing people at his rallies hold up “deport them now” signs, so racism played a huge role. Prime example of cutting off noses to spite faces. Extra mind blowing were Hispanics seeing that and still thought they belonged.
@Carolyn Mind boggling indeed... 🤷

@CStamp @hans

I saw an opinion that said: he gives them permission to be their worst selves.

And that's all they care about.

@davidtheeviloverlord @hans Oh, absolutely. I remember not long into his first regime seeing an article in which a mother with a baby stroller clocked an old Hispanic man in the side of the head with a brick because “maybe” he bumped the stroller as they passed on a sidewalk. With the stroller, she probably bumped him, but regardless, should not have been a thing. Life in MAGA world, Im which common decency and respect are not only not common, but no existent. .

@CStamp @hans @JonChevreau A surprising number of Hispanics are not pro immigration. Blindly, they believe that new waves of “bad immigrants” threaten their jobs and are the reason why racism is growing.

🤦‍♂️

@vpermar @hans @JonChevreau Blindly, indeed. As if the racists and ICE care about good vs bad Hispanics. They are all brown people.

>> A surprising number of #Hispanics are not pro #immigration. Blindly, they believe that new waves of “bad immigrants” threaten their jobs and are the reason why racism is growing.

Not limited to Hispanics. I personally know a lot of wealthy #Indians who came from #India and think of themselves as #coconuts (brown on the outside, #white inside — ugh!).

Among them, a neurosurgeon who opposes wearing masks. Brain doctor brainwashed by #FoxNews 😞

@rameshgupta Apparently the Vance’s see the wife and kids as White instead of those ICE would tackle in the streets and kidnap based on their skin colour. @vpermar @hans @JonChevreau

For #JDVance, #UshaVance is an anchor that he is tolerating for as long as that anchor is needed, but he is already planning to make bed with #ErikaKirk, widow of #CharlieKirk.

For her part, it was not just the hug. She is probably dreaming of new whitehouse draperies and has already endorsed #Vance as president for 2028.

@hans He stole it, as with so much in his life.
@JonChevreau @hans No, he didn't. More people straight-up voluntarily voted for him than for Harris. It's that simple & it's somehow even more damning to America that the single thing in his entire ignoble life Trump got without cheating was the fucking presidency.
@jwcph @hans With Elon’s help, no doubt, and of course Putin’s?
@JonChevreau
Manipulation of the media ecosystem is in-bounds and part of the electoral game in the US, sadly. And that media ecosystem includes social media.
@jwcph @JonChevreau @hans I really don't understand why there's so much irrational resistance to news about corruption and manipulation of voting in the United States. What's the point of PRETENDING that elections are always 100% fair and above board?

@mxchara @JonChevreau @hans Nobody said there was no manipulation of opinion - but there was no significant stealing of votes; the 50-odd attempts by MAGA to "find" votes in their favor would have revealed that.

So yes, there was SO MUCH! lying & information manipulation! - but people still voted for the convicted felon rapist pedo with a known history of being a fraud & a deeply corrupt 1st term & this was not some secret, disputable information passed around on illegally-printed flyers.

@mxchara @JonChevreau @hans It turns out voter fraud is really hard to do & therefore pretty rare - now, this could change dramatically with electronic voting; lawsuits found no manipulation with voting machines but there's no doubt it could be done, but so far there's a distinct difference between election tampering & voter manipulation. The cool thing is, there's a defense against the latter; as a voter you can actually do something & that's why the difference matters.
@jwcph @mxchara @hans perhaps but with 47 every accusation is a confession: he kept howling the election was stolen because it was always on his mind, whether as victim or perpetrator

@JonChevreau @jwcph @mxchara @hans when 47 says negitive about anyone else is usually a thruth about himself and his party now for years ...

He LEARNED how to do all the BULLSHIT from apprentice days when MARK BURNETT taught him how to do HOLLYWOOD TRICKS on his shows to APPEAR as SOMETHING he WAS NOT and HOW things are STAGED to only APPEAR and WANTED SEEN by others

@Lstn2urmama @JonChevreau @mxchara @hans Absolutely. The thing is, though, that people have the choice to not believe the obvious bullshit - like, it was public since the first Apprentice season that it was a fiction - and far too many didn't...
@jwcph @JonChevreau @mxchara @hans That is why HE CHOSE REPUBLICANS as he CONSIDERED them to be more uneducated and stupid... He was a Democrat when not needing to use them... as he could not get away with very much then...
@jwcph Just another one thing we have to learn is we all put our pants on ...one leg at a time and we are no different than another.. no pedestal to be put on ... just know the difference between Right and WRONG ...
@JonChevreau @jwcph @mxchara @hans 47 pushes lie after lie with constant repetition to make them seem real ..taught by Mark Burnett when filming Apprentice and shown all, the tricks of Hollywood and how to make wrong seem right by the MAGIC of illusion ..DECEIT without consequence is how Hollywood makes money...

@jwcph @JonChevreau @hans ridiculous. to steal an election, you keep people from voting at all, and that's both easy to do and leaves no obvious trail of fakery. this has been an obvious Republican method since 2000 revealed their tricks to the world—not that the Democratic leadership seemed to care that much, because they all tamely accepted the illegitimate selection of Bush Jr. as legitimate once it was accomplished, and didn't even put up any significant resistance to the early deeds of his administration. The Dems were too interested in "healing" and "bipartisanship" and thus it was necessary to lull the American people back to sleep and perpetuate the illusion that the nation was still a functional democracy.

I guess a whole lot of people still cherish that illusion, and cling to it as a handy pretext for whingeing about strawman leftists being solely to blame for Republican fascism, as if decades of Democratic collaboration played no part whatsoever.

@jwcph @JonChevreau @hans And good GAWD what the fuck is continually whining about how people voted for Trump ACTUALLY ACHIEVING POLITICALLY?? That's the thing I'll never understand. Is some Democratic miracle supposed to ensue if their few remaining fans all get collectively pissy enough about how the people betrayed them?
@jwcph @JonChevreau @hans (oh and the great thing about stealing elections through purging of voter rolls and manipulating access to balloting and so forth is that the only visible result in the national press is a decline in apparent participation, which gives Democratic sycophants a perfect opportunity to whine about how people aren't voting like they should. It's a win-win! The Republicans win elections and the Democrats get to feel even more peevish and snottily superior to the American population.)
@JonChevreau 🇨🇦 I wouldn't be surprised, indeed.

He's used many tricks from the Fascist Handbook, and Goebbels' "accuse your enemy of what you do" is popular in the Kremlin...

@hans This country will consistently vote in the biggest scumbag imaginable as long as he promises huge tax breaks for the top 1%.
@Toot Ωncommon - SHUT 🇺🇸 DOWN Many people vote with their wallets, which kind of makes sense in a capitalist system where money is the greatest good...

But apparently people didn't seem to understand that he was lying. Cheap promises, simple solutions for complex problems and a mortal fear of fact checking: every alarm bell was ringing.
@hans Only 1% of voters can be in the top 1% of income earners. The other 99% of clown voters are voting with their wankers not their wallets.

@hans
It comes back to the US media ecosystem and how, due to a 40 year long shift blurring the lines between news and opinion programming in US media, most voters here don't believe accurate news about politics.

I feel like I have a whole essay on this bottled up in my head and at some point I need to sit down and just write it.

But that's if they even pay attention to the news. Most USians don't, and just vote in every election as a referendum on the ruling party, based on their own general vibes on how their life is going. People thought things were shitty in 2020, so they voted for the opposition party. People thought things were still shitty in 2024 so they voted for the opposition party again.

@hans He is male and White. That makes him better than any woman and especially better than a woman of color.
@hans racist misogyny played a big role, couldn’t have an ‘emotional woman’ in charge eh (and one of colour too)
@hans Racism.
It's always the racism.
