@vianxonata
Mastodon operates mostly on hashtags (which you can follow!) so #bass is a place to start! (There's also #gearsquad, which gets some traction.)
There are lots of indie musicians on Mastodon as well: I can't claim to know where they all hang out, but following @etherdiver should get you started.
@geoffduncan @vianxonata @etherdiver
I also follow #Basstodon.
@TechBean @geoffduncan @vianxonata @etherdiver
+1
When I post bass stuff, which is not that often anymore, I use #Basstodon.
@geoffduncan @vianxonata @etherdiver #BASS #HowLowCanYouGo This one is mine!
(I did not know #Basstodon was a thing, but now I do.)
@vianxonata @donray Mastodon is full of interesting and friendly people who you might find by searching hashtags related to things that interest you - #bassguitar isnβt used much but #indonesia is.
The best advice I can give is just be yourself and be brave and chat to people who seem interesting. As everyone will tell you, thereβs no algorithm here so you have to find your own people. Good luck!
@vianxonata
I would suggest following @dgar . I would also suggest following a few of the music hashtags like #music . Unlike other services your timeline is not curated, instead it is the people and concepts you choose to follow, as well as the occasional reply to people and concepts you follow.
Anyway, dgar is a musician with a fun bunch of musical followers.
Another one I recommend is @WrenArcher . She is not a musician as far as I know, but she has turned me on to some other musicians
@nikatjef
Thanks for the shoutout James.
I am an amateur musician, singer/songwriter but don't post much about it.
@MamaLake is someone on my instance who comes to mind. I know she has another account but not sure if she's still active there. If I remember right she is a musician and artist, an American but now lives in Thailand with her partner. Is that right, Jenica?
And here's another tip for you about Mastodon, Vian. In the search tab look for hashtags of subjects that interest you and follow those. Your home feed will fill up nicely. Then, as you see interesting toots, interact and follow cool people you come across.
Jope this helps.
I've been here since 2023. I am here mostly to promote my alternative democracy.
I played guitar for 15 years. But I wasn't very good.
@vianxonata welcome back to the party! You have to manually do stuff here , there's no algorithm finding stuff for you! I recommend commenting and following people who write interesting things on the global timeline (you can always unfollow if you don't like them)
And also you can search and post using #hashtags
Like maybe you could do an introduction post and say you're a #bassplayer #musician so other bass players might be able to find you.
@vianxonata
Welcome to the #Fediverse!
As a first guide to all of this I like to recommend https://fedi.tips/.
One of the best features: You can follow hashtags, so #BassMusic and #Indonesia might be interesting for you to use and follow.
I'll buy you a beer mate when you're in Adelaide.
