AI isn't going anywhere. Time to get strategic:
Instead of mourning lost critical thinking skills, let's build on them through cognitive delegation—using AI as a thinking partner, not a replacement.

This isn't some Silicon Valley fantasy:
Three decades of cognitive research already mapped out how this works:

Cognitive Load Theory:
Our brains can only juggle so much at once. Let AI handle the grunt work while you focus on making meaningful connections.

Distributed Cognition:
Naval crews don't navigate with individual genius—they spread thinking across people, instruments, and procedures. AI becomes another crew member in your cognitive system.

Zone of Proximal Development
We learn best with expert guidance bridging what we can't quite do alone. AI can serve as that "more knowledgeable other" (though it's still early days).
The table below shows what this looks like in practice:

@n_dimension this seems to assume a lot of features and progress in the LLM and other ANI fields.

The field of #AI is developing much faster than most people understand.
Just yesterday, the news of #chatgpt #o3pro model that literally advances the utility of the models was announced/made available.
The #apple paper "AI can't reason" that everyone is going memetic over is already largely obsolete.

The people who we need most to engage with AI.
The sceptics. Downright refuse to do so.
This leaves the field to protagonist.

@n_dimension you'll have to show me their experimental results. Seemingly can't trust their marketing / performance claims w/o testing.

@Anarchy_How

The link blog in my post from yesterday about #o3pro is from an AI researcher.

"God is hungry for context." The "so fresh it's twitching" o3-pro model that's literally just been UNLEASHED. People are still dissecting it, but it's power is a magnitude more powerful than the older #ChatGPT models. It's no longer a "Chatbots assistant" it's a "Chatbots ANALYST". If you provide it enough context (a challenge in itself) it will prepare a detailed and functional plan. Failure to provide enough context, will cause it to overthink the assignment. This is not an incremental improvent, it's a different category of intelligence. Notably, the still being reported as news "Illusion of thinking" paper is "an illusion of thinking by apple AI researchers". Not only did this model CRUSH the limits "proven" by apple. The limits were likely caused by context depth (or lack thereof). Also the price of #OpenAI common model is being dropped to $2. The problem with this new model is going to be integrating it in a practical way into society, imagine a super smart child. It's not quite the PhD level model that's been promised, but it looks like it's very close. I keep emphasising that asserting anything about #AI as fact is premature as the field is developing with such rapidity that what was true last week (the Apple paper) is now simply bad science. https://www.latent.space/p/o3-pro #o3pro #AIResearch
