@luckytran Do you have anyone in mind? I use AI to generate reports often. I just did...

The #fake studies thing is problematic but that's a #human #editor not #fact checking.
@dalias @luckytran What do I mean by "typo instead of plagiarism?" This was in a recent article I authored:
“Note on References: This work is a collaborative effort between the human author and an AI large language model (Google's Gemini). As a knowledge synthesis, the content is generated from a vast corpus of information, and the process of identifying and citing specific references is akin to reverse-engineering. While every attempt is made to ensure accuracy and avoid hallucination, ...
... the reference generation process fundamentally differs from conventional research, which typically starts with individual works. This approach may result in imperfections in the completeness or verifiability of all external links, as the primary goal is to synthesize coherent knowledge rather than to meticulously track every source in a traditional bibliographic manner.”
(Can't wait for the replies. The OP issue may be different but it strikes a chord heard regularly)
@QNFO @luckytran ……fucking yikes
Upon doing a little googling, it seems your formal educational background is in urban planning, which probably explains why you're relying on LLMs to write about artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and quantum physics.
@luckytran okay yeah I just figured it out. Not condoning that behavior at all. I had no idea who or what you referred to. I'm abroad and I certainly don't watch US news anymore...
Maybe #AI will do a better job revising tariffs 🙄
@luckytran I been terrified and abused by people based on his lies, about time someone steps in and debunks his BS.
RFK Jr should never have been hired to be in charge of healthcare everywhere. #USpol
@luckytran It's malfeasance and misconduct. It's fraud. Send in a report to the GAO for fraud. That's what he is and that's what he is doing. He also is violating his word to Congress members that he wouldn't touch vaccines.
I sent in a two page scathing report as a fraud complaint. Will I do anything? Probably not but at the very least someone will have to look at it.
@luckytran I remember times when doing so would get undergrad students expelled and disqualified from university and deny-listed by academic affairs for "gross violation of academic standards and ethics"…
I agree!
The inability to use #AI ought to be as disqualifying as failure to use Google scholar or use the library paper database.
Basic computer literacy is a must In the #Science community!
I see so many allegedly eduhcated folk unable to construct even the most basic prompt 🤪
#promptengineering
One should not need to do "prompt engineering" to get useful information from an AI if it actually was fit for purpose.
The pitch is "give it data, ask a question, get answer based on the data" not "give it data, ask a question, get fiction inspired by the data"
Prompt engineering is a field that should not exist if AI actually works in this context.
Google Foo > Google.
One needs to know how to use the simplest tool.
Just because a hammer is "Easy to use" will not prevent sore thumbs if you do not practice with the tool.
AI is not a magic genie, it's more of a monkey paw. Do not fall for the #broligarch propaganda. You need to know how to use AI effectively...just as you need to learn how to use...anything.
@sigismundninja
The head of the American HHS should not use (or allow to be used) AI to generate a document called "Make Our Children Healthy Again", that cites at least one imaginary paper crediting it to a real author that did no such thing. Classic "hallucination" though I hate that term.
