Hey #plasmamobile users, what role is it playing in your life? Is it a on a secondary device? Are you daily driving it? Is it something you simply want to support in the hope it will one day be the only thing in your pocket? What distro are you using?

@zahntron @plasmamobile I have it on a secondary OnePlus 6t (pmOS), I daily drive an iPhone.

I'd love to see the day where I could use it as a daily driver:

I need working 4G LTE, eSIM support.

I want apps to better support mobile, and PWA support in Firefox. I also want a way for the interface to recognize notches and curved displays, so that apps don't use that space.

I'd also like battery life to be a tad better.

@ryanabx @plasmamobile Yes, I've heard these are the more common challenges still in the works. I would love to jump on board with it as my main phone. Is there something akin to Waydroid on it? Would be handy to side load some essentials like baking app etc.
@zahntron @plasmamobile I am following the project, I would love to have a plasma mobile device, but must me robust and reliable. Unfortunately it must be able to run some android apps. In Italy we have several State apps, for health, interacting with gov services, ID verification, documents wallet... This is also needed for bank apps.
@nulll @plasmamobile Yes I'm wondering it it would be possible to implement a translation layer of some kind.
@zahntron @plasmamobile its on secondary devices, one with postmarketos and one with nixos. its definitly not in a daily drivable state, but i hope it will be in the future
@leonard @plasmamobile here here! Ugh the idea of seamless going from my desk to my phone on the go and ways being in #linux
@zahntron Mostly I use it to test my own QtQuick stuff because it fits in nicely due to also being Qt.
@DrewNaylor How cool! Are you developing anything or contributing to something for plasma mobile?
@zahntron Not really, it's supposed to be in its own environment eventually.
@DrewNaylor Got it👍 Would love to see what you're working on if you ever wanna share!

@zahntron I don't particularly like showing off but since you want to see it, it's called Retiled and it's located here: https://codeberg.org/DrewNaylor/Retiled

This is an attempt at making a Windows Phone 8.x-style environment for mainly Linux phones.

Retiled

An attempt at creating a "desktop" environment mainly for Linux phones and tablets that's similar in function to some parts of Microsoft's Windows Phone 8.x, primarily the Start screen, Search app, navigation bar, Action Center, and the status bar. Testing is mainly being done using the PinePhone...

@DrewNaylor This looks awesome. I had an Asus tablet with a Windows 8 on it back in the day and you know I really enjoyed this interface. It just always needed to be on a better OS than Windows haha Thanks for sharing!
@zahntron Thank you. Yeah, I heard it was really good on tablets, though I only used desktop 8 on non-touch computers but did use Windows Phones for a few years. Sadly that's less time than I've had a smartphone at this point. You're welcome.
@zahntron pmOS Edge. Secondary device for no good reason.
@Lioh Supporting #foss is the best reason <3
Main device on fedora. It's a 2-in-1 laptop-tablet device. Using plasma 6 when docked to external monitor/keyboard, plasma mobile on the touchscreen in tablet mode.
@fish_prize How cool! Love the versatility. And that's the dream. Adaptable interface.
@zahntron @plasmamobile I have postmarketOS with plasma on a oneplus6. I want it to be viable as an android replacement. Currently I check it every few months to see how it's progressing. I have tried gnome frontend as well. I used to daily drive the nokia n9 and n900, I also daily drove sailfish for a few months, and Ubuntu touch 15 years ago now (am old apparently)
@eccentricShaft @plasmamobile haha I still remember my first #Ubuntu install in 2010 to breathe new life into a 2006 Thinkpad. But that's cool! Speaking of #nokia a perfect combo to me would be plasma mobile on the HMD Skyline. It's the successor to Nokia and they did partnership with iFixit for a right-to-repair kit.

@zahntron @plasmamobile I used PlaMo on an ARM tablet for a while; I may be back as soon as new pmOS gets out.

Sidenote: (ARM) tablets work well with current mobile Linux stack. They don't need problematic features (ie. phone calls), so they're a good choice for dogfooding mobile Linux, while actually being useful at the same time.

@sado @plasmamobile Ah that's a good point! Once it needs to start becoming a proper phone it's definitely a different situation.
@zahntron @plasmamobile
I have #plasmamobile running with #opensuse #tumbleweed on a levono #X1tab gen3. It's actually a tablet function, I can only use it with plasma mobile.
Works great with the keyboard and the pen is also recognized well with xournal.
I'll soon try to see if I can also make phone calls with it. Is there a sms app on plasma mobile?
Thanks to everyone who is working on it.

@werawelt @zahntron @plasmamobile

Yes. For unknown reasons it's called "space bar" or something like that.

@werawelt @plasmamobile So cool! From the demo videos I've seen on @soulscircuit Pilet it seems like it's also plasma mobile with a touchscreen/keyboard combo capability.

@zahntron @plasmamobile

It's on my PinePhonePro as a secondary device to a GrapheneOS Pixel 6 phone. I'm determined to ditch the Android based phone. I'm just waiting on the basics to get more stable (ie calls, mobile data, texts, email, video playback, camera).

I'm just waiting for a combo of hardware and software that can do these passably.

Unlike many people, I'm not too fussed by battery life, Android apps etc, other than to address issues above.

Am happy to take some pain to switch.

@zahntron
@plasmamobile Got a OnePlus 6T as a secondary device of sorts which I use for experimentation and to more closely follow PostmarketOS and Plasma Mobile.

Would very much like to be able to use it as my primary device - I did daily drive Ubuntu Touch for a month on my FP4 and could absolutely see myself doing the same with pmOS & PM, provided calls & texts work reliably enough.

@zahntron
I am using it in a secondary device trying to get it to work with a dock and a monitor.
