Whenever anyone asks why my "coffee table" is an orange metal bench, I will direct them to this photo of my father's "dining room table" (which I am low-key jealous of).
I was a little bit embarrassed growing up because we didn't have "normal" furniture, but I look back on it now and I think about how my parents were cool AF.
My father just sent me a photo of this drawing I did of our old house and I think it's kind of hilarious that he also has a photo showing it hanging on a different wall in a different house for no apparent reason.
Also, please don't make fun of the window shutters at the top. I can tell that the lines are off and it's driving me crazy, but I drew it when I was a teenager so I’m hoping the internet won’t knock me too hard.
Also, I swear he didn't pay to get that bad drawing framed. For a short period of time, my mom had a hobby of framing things so that's how it ended up on display like that.

cobalt@Alice I like this a lot! And guess what, I was an art teacher and at one time a custom picture framer. A good frame elevates most art. I was fascinated with the detail, and shading of each brick. I hope your mother made sure to attach a note on the back of the frame to tell the origin of the drawing and artist! 😄

My father just sent that photo to me because he put that San Francisco painting over his mantle because it reminds him of me and I was like "that is very nice, but can we please talk about the rad booth in your dining room?" I've been staring at the base and I cannot figure out how that table is suspended/mounted.

@Alice @ldmay65 @adhdeanasl @fedward I can feel the bruise on my knee in that picture. I hit it so many times in various fast food places growing up. The benches scream Burger King though, I don’t remember anywhere else that would have slats like that.

Yeah not sure if ours dates back that far, I’d guess it’s an 80s replica. If it is a 60s original it’s been v e r y gently used by the previous owners.

sen@Alice when my dad redid our countertops in the early 2010's, he built them entirely from scratch (mdf+plywood) and covered them in genuine Aquamarine Boomerang Formica®, I have fond memories but our diningroom was covered in sawdust for like a month 😂

It's like a setting for a movie where some alien intelligence recreated a "human" environment from a person's memories, but didn't understand place-specificity in context. I love it. It could have been a feature in Surreal Homes magazine.
