I have thought for awhile that we should have a younger candidate but switching candidates now will just give the election to Trump.
My father is a little bit younger than Biden. He has cognitive decline, it's bad on some days and not as bad on others. Stress makes it more likely to be bad.
I suspect part of the reason why the right has gone after Hunter Biden as much as they have was to try to trigger episodes like we saw at the @petergleick
beginning of the debate. We've seen similar things happen with Trump though. Both of them are too far gone for the job, but one of them is evil incarnate and switching candidates now will give evil incarnate the white house.
Biden MUST be the candidate if Trump is to be defeated, switching candidates is something that should have happened long before the primaries but it didn't, and it is too late to switch now.

NYT has had a consistent oligarch propaganda narrative for years, and they not only don't apologize for it they double down every time they're called it.
They cheerled on iraq BS and led on bullshit about WMDs.
They kept front-paging obvious conservative bullshit about Hillary.
They won't shut up about rural conservatives but they won't talk to people of color about who THEY support.

Not the millions of Democratic supporters who, like the Editorial Board, are desperate about the candidate’s slim chances after his recent performance? The NYT board clearly wants Trump defeated. The paper has reported extensively on the dangers he presents. They gave Biden the benefit of the doubt until the debate, but it would be irresponsible for such a board if they kept quiet and watched Trump win.

@ariaflame @qkslvrwolf @petergleick Any political leader needs to think, react, act fast on any given number of pressing and long-term problems, be fully at night within seconds when sth bad happens and so on. The office IS a daily performance and a necessary show of strength. Most people at Biden’s age will focus on stuff like arthritis in their shoulder. Waking up at 85 and have all of the world’s problems and pains on your shoulders – it’s simply too much and we’ve all seen it on display.

@tob @petergleick Both options are wrong. The public was lied to about Biden’s state by his entourage. People (and the NYT Editorial Board) gave Biden the benefit of doubt. Then, in the first unscripted confrontation, he falls apart, fails at exposing Trump and comes across as weak and confused. These images now define him. Dem’s choice simply is to either find a new candidate or hand over the keys to the White House to Trump. NYT’s article is nothing less than a distress call.

This has been broadcast allover the world and is a leading topic in Europe. Offering an ailing man with (totally normal but steep) age-related decline to lead in times of crisis is akin to a suicide mission. Biden’s problems can only get worse. Proposing he steers the West at an age when children try to convince their parents to stop driving cars is simply crazy.

The NYT has only gotten worse, especially with the despised "both-siderism" garbage when covering Democrats and what's left of Republicans.

NYT editors wouldn’t even let their journalists use the words “occupied territory” let alone “genocide” to describe the mass slaughter in Palestine.
