This pains me no end after a lifetime of subscribing, but the @nytimes has lost its way at a time when the need for exemplary journalism is at its greatest.
@petergleick All NYT did was asking for a candidate with an above zero chance to defeat Trump and stop him from destroying US democracy. You are shooting the messenger here.

@christianschwaegerl @petergleick

NYT has had a consistent oligarch propaganda narrative for years, and they not only don't apologize for it they double down every time they're called it.

They cheerled on iraq BS and led on bullshit about WMDs.

They kept front-paging obvious conservative bullshit about Hillary.

They won't shut up about rural conservatives but they won't talk to people of color about who THEY support.

They're oligarch propaganda.

@qkslvrwolf @petergleick Who are the "oligarchs" in the Biden case supposed to be? Not the millions of Democratic supporters who, like the Editorial Board, are desperate about the candidate’s slim chances after his recent performance? The NYT board clearly wants Trump defeated. The paper has reported extensively on the dangers he presents. They gave Biden the benefit of the doubt until the debate, but it would be irresponsible for such a board if they kept quiet and watched Trump win.
@christianschwaegerl @qkslvrwolf @petergleick His polls went up after the debate. So he's not the hottest debater. So what? It's not a common task the President is called upon to do. Do you hire your workers by asking them to do interpretive dance?
@ariaflame @qkslvrwolf @petergleick Any political leader needs to think, react, act fast on any given number of pressing and long-term problems, be fully at night within seconds when sth bad happens and so on. The office IS a daily performance and a necessary show of strength. Most people at Biden’s age will focus on stuff like arthritis in their shoulder. Waking up at 85 and have all of the world’s problems and pains on your shoulders – it’s simply too much and we’ve all seen it on display.

@christianschwaegerl oh give me a break. You're seeing what you wanted to see.

Biden's skill at the job is present in the epic list of accomplishments this administration has had. Which I doubt you're even aware of.

@qkslvrwolf He deserves a lot of respect and I have followed his many accomplishments. But anyone with a parent blessed to get to 82 or 85 knows that that’s not the age bracket for a tough fight with a political beast and then one of the most demanding jobs on Earth.

@christianschwaegerl My grandad lived to 98 and was perfectly capable until 95 and lucid until he got covid and died.

Not everyone ages the same way. Replacing Biden would be really, really fucking stupid.

And none of you people have a plan that doesn't involve a cluster-fuck convention that loses the confidence of everyone.

Ain't happening. And the the conversation is a waste of time. So, bye.
