This morning, I hiked up to High Cup Nick, an almost perfectly shaped glacial valley. Normally the views are breathtaking but my viz at the top was less than 100 m 🙈. At a lower viewpoint, clouds lifted a bit #yorkshire #hiking #interrail
Then, back to Appleby (12 km) over very quiet country lanes to catch the train to Settle #interrail #yorkshire
Settle, a nice little town with a great restored signal box, pubs, shops and a twice-per-saturday bus to Malham 😎🚌🚏
The bus ride was likely the most scenic I ever made. “Pieter Post-gevoel” 😊
I couldn’t find a schedule that fitted in breakfast, a long hike, and the once-daily bus out of #Malham #Yorkshire. Until I realized I could do the 4-hour hike before breakfast! Early start at 5.30 AM, no other hikers encountered 😊🥾 #Limestone #geology #MalhamCove
Some crazy planning - took the train to Leeds then York then Scarborough and decided that my legs were still good for another hike. Ravenscar to Robin Hood’s Bay with some intense rain on the way #interrail #yorkshire

Final activity for today before heading back home: visit the National Railway Museum in #york. They have an original 1964 Shinkansen on display, and of course some great steam engines 🚄🚂 Fascinating engineering! #interrail #yorkshire
In Eurostar announcements, they consistently say that the train is fitted with sensitive smoke detectors, and *therefore* it is not allowed to smoke on the train. Seems to me it’s the other way around 😜

Maybe the train just happened to come with sensitive smoke detectors installed, because its designers thought it would be a good idea.
And after discovering that the alarm going off would cause distress among passengers, management decided to disallow smoking on the train...?
