So, today I start on a new #Interrail ticket, in a new modality for me: the one-country ticket for Great Britain.

It turns out to only be available as a flex pass, which works out for me as I’m not travelling on Monday.

I picked the one-country ticket because I knew there was little to no chance of getting a Eurostar off this island on an Interrail with so little notice. So I’m flying in and out.

I looked. My train today (Malvern-Durham) is roughly half the price of the pass that I bought. And that was in second class. In first, the one train was pricier than my first class pass. So I effectively get 5 days travel for free.

And I have long distance (for the UK) travel plans in mind. It’s a no-brainer

Ich fliege prinzipiell nicht mehr. Ich dokumentiere hier ja, wie ich Bahn fahre. Ja, Paris muss man nicht mal mehr umsteigen. Aber für das europäische Bahnsystem gibt es sehr viel Verbesserungsbedarf. Darauf weise ich hier hin.

@sebwilken Danke! Ist irgendwie doof, dass man das gesamte Spezialwissen selbst aufbauen muss, weil die DB das nicht vermitteln kann.

Ich hatte meine ganze einzeln gebuchte Reise nach Lissabon auch mal mit #Interrail zu planen probiert. Das ist ganz gut, um einen Überblick zu bekommen, den ich da aber schon hatte. Und dann ist es natürlich gut, wenn eine Verbindung nicht funktioniert. Da ist nicht gleich das ganze Geld futsch. Aber für Lissabon und zurück hätte ich den Siebentagepass gebraucht und der ist dann auch nicht mehr billig …

Kollade på kostnader för senaste resan, brukar inte göra det för då ser allt så dyrt ut :D

Interrail 22 dagar i sträck: 5500 kr
Boende på hotell (16): 13200 kr
Nattåg (3): 1900 kr

Hotell: 360 -1150 kr / natt. Snitt 800 kr. Använde inte hela giltighetsperioden för #interrail

För mig känns det som flexibiliteten med Interrail som gäller hela perioden vinner, det är på boendet det går att spara stort. Eller en dag kortare resa.

Begränsat interrail = mer planering krävs

I entered our 1998 #Interrail trip into @viaduct_world . This trip was a bit more sane with more stays in hotels than the earlier ones. It included the Csárdás train, Malmö–Budapest, using the train ferry between Trelleborg and Sassnitz. We decided for some reason to get off already in Czechia, though. My partner, now spouse, has still never visited Hungary. Will have to fix that next year, I think.

Some highlights were Kutná Hora, Dresden, Amsterdam, the Škocjan caves, Juan-les-Pins, the Petit train jaune, and Andorra.
