Junior person: every party denied me entrance, and I guess I’ll have to eat at McDonald’s and NEVER BUY THEIR PRODUCTS
💯🍸🤷🏻♀️💜
@dantemercurio @hacks4pancakes I stayed in the prototypical “fleabag hotel” one year. Single hallway bathroom. Itchy sheets. Mystery thumping from the room next door.
Ahhhh, the memories.
Kinda feeling the FOMO still this year.
@hacks4pancakes as someone who doesn't know the right people, it's also pretty typical in my experience.
I've literally never gotten into a blackhat party without scamming my way in.
@riskymanag3ment @hacks4pancakes Had a corporate credit card an aeon ago, and the combination of the corporate practices and the financial provider practices were… unpleasant.
More often than not, the system had the employee paying the bill in full, and then waiting for corporate reimbursement.
Reimbursement which didn’t always get approved of course, or didn’t get timely approval.
Employees effectively providing short-term interest-free loans to the corporation.
Worse, the financial provider’s expense and reimbursement system was abhorrent. Probably deliberately abhorrent, too.
Years and years later, the same financial provider was soliciting my business, with letters and calls.
I laughed and laughed and laughed, and took great care in appropriately filing the solicitations.
@riskymanag3ment @hacks4pancakes Yep, this is why I have the policy I do wrt silicon vendors.
If you go out of your way to make your parts difficult to use in a design (hiding datasheets behind NDAs, chips not available from distributors without volume sales contracts, etc) then I'll honor your wishes.
And you'll never get a design win from me for the rest of my career.
@hacks4pancakes I vividly remember being outright ignored by damn near every vendor at Secure360 back when I was a student - I get that you're there to get sales leads, and thus those attendees with scannable barcodes on their badges are more likely to be of immediate value to you, but the folks at the Shavlik booth gave me a neat transforming pen and the time of day and I still remember that, nigh on a decade later.
The other attendees were great, though - just the money grubbers who sucked. Go figure.
