My new sofa is coming tomorrow SURPRISE ZERO NOTICE FEDEX COURIER two weeks early, along with the insulation repair guys and snow. I have not yet gotten rid of the old sofas yet. I don’t have a basement. I live alone and the largest box FedEx ships is 70lbs. SURPRISE SOFA! Is infinite screaming on here yet?
@mikey fuckityfuckfuckfuck
@hacks4pancakes I would gladly help you move. But Chicago a long drive. And as you said... Snow...
@mikey appreciated but a bad idea!
@hacks4pancakes Bright side... You get to play with the fancy new couch sooner?
@mikey @hacks4pancakes Please don't dispose of sofas by setting them on fire indoors.
@leifnixon @hacks4pancakes
Look, desperate times call for creative measures.
@hacks4pancakes if only you had a local trashnothing.com with a member who needs a sofa right now
@KayJanes I posted on everything
@hacks4pancakes fingers and toes crossed AND don't forget to breathe.
@hacks4pancakes I do wish companies that provide a delivery date kept to it instead of "being helpful" and sending stuff early with little notice. Throws out planning :(
@rbairwell I ordered it yesterday, apparently it’s local and in stock
@hacks4pancakes we had a similar issue a while back. we ended up standing the old sofa up on its side til we found a home for it. the cat loved that

@Viss @hacks4pancakes

Yes this!

Try to restrain them or tip them a bit so they don't fall and blast you when your back is turned.

@hacks4pancakes Do you have an axe?
An axe will solve your problem no matter which problem you use it on. The old sofa or the courier it just doesn't matter :)
@ukscone I think a steel loveseat is a chainsaw problem

@hacks4pancakes I instituted a rule for myself in 2018 that if a furniture company thought FedEx was an acceptable way to ship their wares, I should shop anywhere else. Even IKEA has their own managed delivery service.
@bgluckman @hacks4pancakes not sure what sofa was purchased, but my Lovesac Sactional came by FedEx. But it’s all stackable boxes and square.
@bertjwregeer @bgluckman The biggest box FedEx ships is 70lbs so I am hoping for the best with the 16 or so boxes LoveSac is apparently sending me.
@hacks4pancakes @bgluckman none of them will be 70 lbs. All of them you will be able to move.

@hacks4pancakes

Yes infinite screaming is on here
Your new sofa is sactional, so it can stack in a small area
Old sofas can be tilted up on end to be out of the way
If the snow doesn't stop them 1-800-Got Junk will carry the old sofas out and away for a fee
A flattened Amazon Box, in a pinch, makes a nice doormat to sop up slush from shoes

Anything else?

@That_AC the insulation guys need full access to the driveway and the entire house all day

@hacks4pancakes

Stand the sofas up in the middle of the room, put the sactional boxes in the middle of the room.

Lovesac is like lego, so until you try to make it sofalike its smaller.

@That_AC I think as long as I can keep the driveway clear all day I can put those boxes in the garage. As long as I can move them alone with no dolly.

@hacks4pancakes

I've only seen a lovesac in the commercials, and they show people easily moving the parts around.

YT confirms what I thought, each piece is in its own shipping box, so shouldn't be 200 lbs in 1 huge box.

I think you can handle the pieces.
I will also note that a cup of cocoa or coffee on a cold day might encourage the fed ex guy to move the extra 15 feet to put the boxes in the garage for you.

@hacks4pancakes AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
@hacks4pancakes I love moving furniture, I wish I lived closer, I'd help! Also, that is too much of a good thing for the sofa to arrive early!

@hacks4pancakes
This may or may not be useful to you, but from experience, a sofa set up on end takes up far less space although you don't want it somewhere it can fall on something fragile.

Of course, if the storm gets really bad and the power goes out, furniture can make a nice bonfire. But I'm sure you've already considered that possibility....

@spaf @hacks4pancakes side note: in case of thermonuclear war ensure that the sofa is between yourself and the toilet seat (cf. Teapot Apple 2 test in Nevada).
@hacks4pancakes not sure if you’ve already tried, but you may be able to get FedEx to defer the delivery.
@gregw It's like... FedEx local courier, apparently my order is in stock in the next town over...

@hacks4pancakes

You can always try contacting FedEx directly and see if they can hold for a day or reschedule. especially if signature is required. you can always tell them you’re not going to be there and you’re just trying to save them a trip.

@hacks4pancakes
As far as making the current sofa disappear, you can try contacting the “buy nothing group” either on Facebook or their app. Just tell them that they have to pick it up and what floor you’re on in the building, and first come first served.

@hacks4pancakes if it makes you feel any better, mine arrived while I was out of town.
Also, because modular, and extremely smooshed, it comes in a bunch of relatively small boxes, so it’s much easier to stash in a corner than you’re probably thinking.
@hacks4pancakes and to answer the actual question, @scream
@hacks4pancakes if not for 4-6 inches of snow and the entire length of the state, I would offer t come help somehow :(
@hacks4pancakes Every time I've had furniture or an appliance delivered, the delivery folks offered to take away the old stuff for a nominal fee. Definitely worth an ask!
@horse its just fedex
@hacks4pancakes They’ll still do it for a nominal fee… for exceedingly large values of “nominal.”

@hacks4pancakes May I introduce you to our new "Screaming Into the Void as-a-Service" (SITVaaS)?

For a low subscription we have highly qualified people who are located in 'follow the sun' locations who take on the tiresome screaming for you. Recordings are available in our highly secure Wordpress portal should you care to review them.

:-)

@hacks4pancakes I know you live in chicagoish area, I do to and I'd recommend if you can just getting the old sofa to the curb. As long as you tip the trash men well during Christmas they always seem willing to take the insane stuff myself and my neighbors leave out
