There were three men came out of the West
Three kings both great and high
And they have sworn a solemn oath
John Mastodon must die.

They took a tank and ran him down
With bullets in his head
And they have sworn a solemn oath
John Mastodon was dead

But when the Spring came kindly on
And showers began to fall
John Mastodon got up again
And did surprise them all...

@neilhimself now and forever, winwood>clapton
@LukeYoquinto @neilhimself winwood had that low spark of high heeled boys, which really put him over the top.

@simonjgoring @LukeYoquinto @neilhimself
Well sure, but TBC wasn't that a Jim Capaldi line, describing Michael J Pollard?

(If one's of a certain age one might remember when Pollard was one of the most promising young actors of his generation - he had this weird intensity that apparently made a really powerful impression on Capaldi.)

@neilhimself What were the kings high on?
@duckswithpants @neilhimself Their own supply.
@dalias @duckswithpants @neilhimself They were on that good good shit and thatโ€™s how they couldnโ€™t tell they hadnโ€™t actually killed John Mastodon.
@neilhimself I see you haven't tweeted this on the other place. I'll RT if you do. If you don't, we'll all understand why. Whoever he appoints to be his stooge will have as much of a humor bypass as he himself does.
@TomDelargy I tweeted the first verse three hours ago there. https://twitter.com/neilhimself/status/1604856355411570688
Neil Gaiman on Twitter

โ€œThere were three men came out of the West Their fortunes for to try And these three men made a solemn vow: John Mastodon must die.โ€

Twitter
@neilhimself I didn't notice. While I've no intention of deactivating my other account I rarely even visit it anymore and scared of tweeting anything due to his sensitivity and humor bypass. I hope as time goes by you prioritize this site more than the other one to accelerate the #TwitterMigration from all your three million followers. The more you build this account the quicker they will come.
@neilhimself @TomDelargy you might be pleased that I liked boosted and shared on my FB page, but it was not until someone commented on it that I realized it was YOU. Empirical evidence of the genuine brilliance of the content as opposed to trite fandom ass kissing !
@TomDelargy Sounds like #JohnMastodon might just be one of them High Heeled Boys (but with no Low Spark)
@jimmyraytuneno @TomDelargy ๐ŸŽถ The percentage youโ€™re paying came out of the West
While youโ€™re living on fortunes to try
And three men in a suit have just made a new vow
That this Barleycorn fellow must die.
And theyโ€™ve plowed him, theyโ€™ve sown him, theyโ€™ve harrowed him in
Threw down clods that didnโ€™t make any noise
And now little Sir John has just sprung up his head
At the low spark of high-heeled boys ๐ŸŽถ
@avram @TomDelargy well I believe that thanks to both @donmelton and #johnmastodon, The Traffic has increased!
@jimmyraytuneno @avram @TomDelargy I somehow missed this message earlier. ๐Ÿค” Sorry about that! Unless, of course, it's a good thing. ๐Ÿ˜€
@donmelton @avram @TomDelargy I mean it as goodl, you have done much for the newbies like me.
@jimmyraytuneno @TomDelargy it wasnโ€™t the Elon that laid him to rest, was the low toot of high tech toys.

@simonjgoring @jimmyraytuneno @TomDelargy OMG ๐Ÿ˜‚

As an aside, wouldn't it be great if this silly trend sparked (ha!) a remerging interest in the music of Traffic, who don't seem to have maintained the same kind of fanbase as many bands from that era?

@TFFPrisoner @simonjgoring @[email protected] l I would have to go on Blind Faith for that one!
@neilhimself If I was John Mastodon, I would be pretty perturbed that someone ran me over with a tank. I would not be inviting those three Western Men over for tea. Not at all.
@neilhimself I will now be singing this to myself for the rest of the day. Itโ€™s a good thing Iโ€™m working from home this week.
@neilhimself I have Steeleye Span doing the music for that!
@LordJubalonFlux @neilhimself
"Fol lol lol, it's a lovely day..." ๐Ÿ™‚
Steve Winwood // Traffic - John Barleycorn (Must Die)

YouTube
@neilhimself @essjaykeys I wasnโ€™t aware of that version!

@neilhimself this has to be one of the best takes of #JohnMastodon Iโ€™ve seen.

Also, we can all sing it together, over a good cup brewed from Johnโ€™s bones.

@ThetaSigma @neilhimself do we get to drink it from his skull?
@MarchViolet @neilhimself itโ€™s traditional yes. He dies to bring us cheer and thatโ€™s the respectful way to honour his sacrifice so that he can rise again.
@neilhimself and thus Mastadon Mythology was born. Looking forward to the comic book series and eventual Netflix series.

@neilhimself

I recognise that song! Well done.

๐Ÿ˜€

I shall have to go listen to John Barleycorn now...

@mfwiniberg @neilhimself
for french people like me that haven't the ref : Sam Lee - John Barleycorn (Official Video) https://youtu.be/EQdfuDWdqgI via @YouTube

@neilhimself GREAT, now I'm gonna sing that damn song for a week. Thanks.
@neilhimself amazing! This is the content Iโ€™m here for!
@neilhimself thank you! my partner really loves John Barleycorn (he listened to it as a kid and didn't learn about the allegory until he was a little older).
@neilhimself And now Iโ€™m thinking of The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead https://youtu.be/pYupSHWEJxA #xtc

@neilhimself I can't put into words how happy I am to have you in this space to fill our timelines with little gems like this.

Also, can't wait for your next book! ๐Ÿ˜Š

@neilhimself

Now, sing this to the tune of the Gilligan's Island theme song...

You're welcome.

@isucceed @neilhimself

๐ŸŽถ.....Did surprise them aaall! ๐ŸŽต Yep. It fits.

How do you even come up with this? ๐Ÿคฃ

@JohannesWilhelm @neilhimself

I confess to convenient cognitive priming. I had watched this only moments before seeing the post.

Also, nice to meet a fellow aviation addict. Paragliders here, what's your air-of-choice?

@isucceed @neilhimself

I love gliders too, but the hypersonic kind.

@JohannesWilhelm @neilhimself

That's fun. My Dad spent his career as an engineer at KSC. I was at the VIP site for 1st launch of STS...

@isucceed @neilhimself

First launch? You mean STS-1? I saw that live on TV when I was in junior high, in Mexico City. I was always an aero kid, but thereafter I only had one interest: finding out how the Shuttle worked. In Summer of 2002 I finally had *fully* answered that question. It only took 2 Masters Degrees.

Met interesting people along the way. Hans Mark (RIP) was my undergrad Orbital Mechanics teacher at UT Austin (Go Horns!)

@JohannesWilhelm @neilhimself

Way cool.

Yes, I was in the bleachers with ESA people at STS-1. I was in high school.

@isucceed @neilhimself

Bet that left an impression. Anyhow I'm trying to find more aero people from birdsite migrating to Fediverse, but this newfangled Mastodon thing still confuses people and even on Twitter the bulk of fans are still in highschool (!)

I suggest a good professor from UT San Antonio, who Tweets a lot of educational aero science (when he's not critiquing Man Child); he's got a couple of bot accounts here:

@drchriscombs

@JohannesWilhelm @neilhimself @drchriscombs

Thank you very much for that. I'll check him out.

Yesterday, I read a suggestion to search #introduction and #newhere hash tags, and to use them liberally in your bio and a pinned introduction post on your own timeline.

I'm also searching and following (you know you can follow a hashtag?) hashtags of interest. In truth, it's working better than any other site for finding the right people.

@neilhimself

Wasn't there just *one* man from the West...not so much of a king as he thought... and definitely not as great (but probably high)... who has sworn that solemn oath
"John Mastodon must die"?

@neilhimself I have had this album since high school! Traffic! ๐Ÿ˜€
@neilhimself this is beautiful and quite appropriate for the Solstice
