It's an #introduction post!

I live in #Seattle with my family, my wife @Andrle and our son. We love a lot of the same things β€” playing #VideoGames and #BoardGames, building with #lego , and reading #books. #StarTrek is of course a huge influence on us, too. πŸ––πŸ»

I've been #vegan since 2015 and like to #cook when I can.

I am a Principal #SoftwareEngineer working at #AWS in #cloud #cybersecurity. I love to mentor newer engineers.

Forgot to post a very important #introduction addendum, the image that I think perfectly captures my relationship with #computers.
@ultranurd OMG. This should be the new ermahgerd meme.
@ultranurd this is frikkin adorable πŸ₯°
@ultranurd Maybe I can still buy a Jazz drive on ebay? LOL

@ultranurd Man you are giving me flashbacks! So awesome.

"Earlier Jaz drives could overheat, and loading-mechanism jams could leave a disk stuck in the drive. This became known in the profession as the "click of death", because of the clicking sound it made as it tried and failed to eject the disc. Forcibly ejecting a stuck disk could destroy both the drive and disk."

@ultranurd
According to Wikipedia:

"In September 1998, a class action suit was filed against Iomega over a type of Zip drive failure dubbed the "Click of Death", accusing Iomega of violation of the Delaware Consumer Fraud Act."

"In 2006, PC World rated the Zip drive as the 15th worst technology product of all time. Nonetheless, in 2007, PC World rated the Zip drive as the 23rd best technology product of all time despite its known problems."

@ultranurd Amazing. Our original stories have a lot of overlap.
@NerdDotIs I have my uncle to thank for this photo opportunity.
@ultranurd What sorts of stuff we’re you using Zipdisks for, at that age?
@matt Some games I had copied from friends... and my main school project folder, since there was a Zip Drive in the library and I could bring things for printing. Also the ClarisWorks Database of my Star Trek CCG card collection πŸ˜†
@ultranurd Love it. I was always jealous of the kids who had Zip disks in college. Still have the #startrek cards?
@matt Some of them! I have a playable deck... and I found a complete bridge crew set at a mall a few years ago for $7 πŸ˜†
@ultranurd I had the same look on my face when I got my ZipDrive
@ultranurd 16yo me is very jealous of you in this photo.
@nevyn I could store so many shareware games!
@ultranurd I was studying at the time and was having to use floppies for bigger files (smaller files could be transferred using Hotmail). I remember the excitement of going into an art school (I had friends there) to find that the norm was zip drives/disks and later there were even jazz drives!!!
@ultranurd Hah! I got one for my birthday as a kid, I'm sure I had an equally dorky moment like this! πŸ˜…
@mac84tv I am very glad someone (my uncle I think) captured this.
@ultranurd That could have been me in the early 90s... except I looked like a dork.
@ultranurd That is the exact reaction I had when I got an HDI-30 adapter for my PB 145b so I could finally use the blazing rotational velocity of my 3x top-load CD-ROM drive. I was drunk with power.

Find someone who loves you like this person loves their zip drive.

@ultranurd @Andrle πŸ‘‹ looking forward to connecting with other like minded folks here as I depart from Twitter. Started my vegan journey in 2016 and started my engineering journey in 2020. The vegan journey has been very successful, the software engineering journey less so.
@ultranurd @Andrle That's the cutest! Learning a new language w/ your partner. I'm learning #French on #Duolingo -- pleased to have read your intro 🀘🏽
@ultranurd @Andrle Ich freue mich zu sehen, dass Ihr Deutsch lernt. Deutsch ist meine Muttersprache. πŸ€
I'm also an avid #duolingo user, celebrating my 1000-day streak today 🀩
@ultranurd @Andrle I just started German on Duolingo today! Spent a lot of time doing French a few years back.
