@straphanger As a long-time resident of #Grenoble, I can say that the 30 km/h #speedLimit is nearly always ignored and absolutely not enforced by the municipal #police force, nor by the national police.
It's even ignored by the municipal buses. On paper it's the law, but in reality it's more like a mild suggestion. I think security gains came for other improvements in street and urban design.
Also, as a native of #Bordeaux, thank you for using this picture. I love seeing this "wireless" #tram, and hope more people can realize that public transit can be simultaneously useful and pretty if they get involved and fight for it. This tram, it's so elegant, like a plumb caterpillar meandering through the posh city center. 🚊
@straphanger I lived 10 years in Grenoble. From this time I can tell that what was already a decent place has been mesmerised by the current mayor, Piolle. We already had a very decent tramway-network given the size of the city. Most importantly: there were park & rides with attractive pricing on every line end.
With Piolle this has been scaled dramatically, the city core has now big car-free parts, there’s no commercial advertising on public space, …
IMO urban centres should be car free. Emergency vehicles, permitted deliveries, public transport, disability vehicles, bikes and foot traffic only. Pedestrians have priority. #PeopleFirst
@straphanger isn't 30km/h still too much for humans? Shouldn't this be more like about 24-25km/h? Do you know about any medical background here by any chance?
Good news. More cities should follow.

Wie kriegt man sowas bei OB Jochen Partsch hinterlegt? Ausdrucken und Briefmarke drauf oder kriegt die #Wissenschaftsstadt und #digitalstadt Darmstadt hier mal einen Account?
HM???
The Senedd (the Welsh parliament) will drop the restricted (urban and high pedestrian areas) speed limit from 30mph to 20mph in September 2023 which, hopefully, will see similar results 👍
