But is RN really fascists? Well, yes. They made a great deal of not showing this too much in the last ten years, but they _really_ are. It’s a party founded by SS, holding Pétain (our Hitler, who Macron, this massive shithead, wanted to honour in 2018) in fond memory, teaching “Maréchal nous voilà” to their children, whose long-lasting head was proud of having tortured in Algeria and exhibited his revisionism a few times. He is also the father of Marine Le Pen.
Hope that makes what’s happening clearer. Tl;dr: french bourgeoisie needs to vote left and won’t, preferring fascists, and we all hope that they are too few to bring them to power.
Now the french system is not that easy: there is no proportional part. Every deputy comes from a single county, as is the case in the US. But when there is no candidate above 50% we have a second round, where only the candidates above 10% can (but is not forced to) enter. So today’s result actually does not mean that the RN necessary wins. (Note: still can, and believe me that I’m very scared of that).
Basically, what is happening right now, is that in case the left coalition, hastily forged in order to beat the RN (Macrons Party wasn’t even a matter of interest actually) is third, they do not enter the second round and urge their voters to vote against the fascists (as moral and decency should dictate to everybody). It is important for this also to be the case in the far more situations where the current majority has fewer chances of winning.
Results today are not a surprise: we knew already that the fascists had around 40% of voices. It’s a good thing to see the worst of the “republicans” already counted into that, as it’s a good thing to see other far-right parties annihilated (props to Zemmour and his 0,6%). It means that we know a lot more about what they can do out of their own strength.
The new RN, albeit being very careful up to the point where they excluded the AfD of their little European group (lol) still openly defends things like “national preference” and massive “remigration” against a fantasy of “great replacement” (which was created by the french Renaud Camus btw). It is also under russian (monetary) influence for a very long time, and its surge has also been helped by a massive Russian social-media-push.
Except Macron, Philippe (a bloke wanting to be the salvation of the moderate right wing, but in fact being g a negligeable dickhead) et al. are not doing that, preferring to push through out of pure dogma for the moment being. This will, as all of their calculations, fail. The consequences may be dramatic. It’s not even up to debate anymore. Yet, still, they say “yeah fascists are bad, but left republicans are at least equally bad”. These people have no honour. None.
