Fellow hams, I'm suddenly getting the itch to understand RF circuit design. Basically, I want to be able to look at the sbitx or ubitx RF board diagrams and understand what I'm looking at. Currently, I can't even be sure I'm orienting the page correctly. Is there a good resource that will take me from zero to at least that level of comprehension? Thanks!

Those of you with an #sbitx do you like it? Unlike the #ubitx does it have an S-meter built in? Is there anything I should know before buying one? I may replace my g90 with it. #hamradio #raspberrypi
Yay, #qrp 5W to AR from WI, 655 miles. #hamradio #pota #uBitX

I have a #digital related question for people of the #hamradio community.

Does anyone know of a #transceiver that does good 5W on digital modes like #FT8 #PSK #JS8 #RTTY etc. I just want to only run digital modes with it. I been looking at #uBITX V6 and #QDX etc but interested peoples input. One the reasons I looking into this is cause my station runs off of solar and battery and my current radios draw 5-6A at 5W on FT4/8 etc

A Tale of Two Voltage Regulators.

On the left is a LM7805 voltage regulator. All the capacitors and heatsink were needed for filtering, dampening, and cooling to make the #ubitx 5" Nextion display happy. All that heatsink is needed because the LM7805, a linear VR, is pretty inefficient.

The far simpler board on the right uses a module that is a drop-in replacement for the LM7805. It is a switch-mode VR and though rated the same as the LM7805 needs no heatsink.

Finally, a proper heatsink for the µBITX! I figured out a way to mount it independent of the back panel which will make it easier to work on.

But what an effort it was to get it all together. Getting the aluminum spacer drilled and tapped was the cause of much anguish, and till done it consumed 2 drill bits and two taps that are still embedded in the block. I also needed to unsolder and reposition one of the transistor for it to fit.
