For those who didn't follow the announcement on the website, we are closing our Turtl service . The service is exceptionally up until the end of the month. If you have a Turtl account at Nomagic, this is your last chance to make a backup before closing  .

Any thoughts on using #turtl today? The desktop app hasn't been updated in years. I've been using it for the little stuff I don't want to have in plain text and I like it, but I don't know if it's still secure anymore. Migrating to a password manager seems like not a good fit for my purpose (some longer texts, an image here and there, information topology).

Update:

I'll stick to #Pelican and activate the Markdown extension "Wikilinks" (like [[link name]]), and it's pretty much sufficient.

Other more qualified apps would be #Joplin, #Turtl, #Zettlr, #Obsidian.

@danslerush @monkeyborg @smallcircles @linkwarden I had used #turtl https://turtlapp.com/ in the past which worked really well, but couldn't get it to work on #yunohost even though there is a package which looks to be unmaintained :(

@justanna In the past I’ve used Turtl (https://turtlapp.com/) and been pleased with it especially as an Evernote alternative. Personally I use org-roam but wouldn’t recommend it to someone who doesn’t already use emacs. Obsidian I’ve heard a lot of good things about #turtl #emacs

I'm back with my restored PC and while I'm setting it all up I let here a list of the basic software I use and recommend:

#libreoffice for the academic stuff
#calibre e-book management
#turtl an opensource evernote
#peazip foss alternative to winrar
#vlc for the videos
#gimp for image processing
#firefox web browsing
#thunderbird e-mail, task manager...
#keepass2 password management
#moneymanagerex for finances
#gramps for my genealogical research
#ultradefrag open source defrag
#winamp mp3
