@dangillmor For what it is worth, I think they are working on a fix. There are several open issues relating to the way #Bridgyfed link previews are working (or not working.)

I don't know if #Snarfed has a comment it would make about any planned progress. It is annoying.

Interesting goings-on in the [ #Snarfed / #Bridgyfed ] #Github:

"Switch #Bluesky to opt out? (Issue #1471)"

This, from Peter Cottle (pcottle - Code monkey on Threads 🐵) who is actually a #Threads dev

"@snarfed thoughts on making a post on bluesky to solicit opinions? Maybe posting from the bridgy fed account + soliciting reposts?

I just want to know what the wider community thinks (even if there is some selection bias)"

The gist of the convo is whether to make Bluesky users opt-out of being bridged over to Mastodon, or continue as opt-in (each user makes their own personal choice)

In other words, will (new) Bluesky accounts automatically be OPTED-IN to being bridged over to Mastodon (possibly without their knowledge) or continue as OPT-IN: requiring a specific decision/action by new users

Switch Bluesky to opt out? · Issue #1471 · snarfed/bridgy-fed

Not actually planned yet, but lots of people regularly request it, so I want a place to capture some of the discussion and ideas. Norms on Bluesky are different from the fediverse in this regard. A...

Anyone who actually bothers to click through and *read* that tech-bro dreck at "#TechCrunch" will see that "the snarky #GitHub comments" are not taking place on either the #Mastodon or #Bluesky #Githubs -- both of which I follow very closely and where this issue is completely absent

All the shouting is happening exclusively on the snarfed/bridgy-fed Github of the developer himself, where he's now busy closing comments on Issues as they've go off the rails and he can't keep up with everything that's being said

Here, for one: https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy-fed/issues/878

He's way in over his head, which can happen when you rush to code and publicize, without thinking through the real-world consequences for real people who are suddenly faced with your new Killer App(tm) coming into their lives

I'm finding the number of people who are posting this latest tech-rag #Fediverse expose-hot-take interesting

It seems most of them have not bothered to read the article or understand it to any depth

The alleged "snarky #GitHub comments" are on neither the #Bluesky Github nor on the #Mastodon Github, both of which I follow very closely

Here:

https://github.com/bluesky-social/atproto/issues

and here:

https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues

They're exclusively found on the [snarfed/bridgy-fed] Github, here:

Where our young coder wonder-bro is basically getting his 455 handed to him, all his angry groupies notwithstanding

But why ruin a techy-bro-mag-hot-take with anything factual or accurate?

I just #snarfed down a delicious plate of food! Oh, wait. We aren’t talking about that?

PS. I just suspended (domain blocked) both snarfed.org and brid.gy from my personal fediverse instance and saw that there was already one account from one and eleven accounts on the other so my account was apparently already being bridged without my consent.

Those links are now severed and they never should have existed without my knowledge or approval to begin with.

#FediBlock snarfed.org and brid.gy for bridging fediverse folks to Bluesky against their will (and in likely contravention of GDPR in the EU) with typical Silicon Valley techbro sense of entitlement:

“[O]pt in results in far fewer users, and users are critical for a bridge to be useful.”¹
