The modern anti-vaccine movement coincidences (c. 1998) with the creation of the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS).

From 1998-2003, the United States began to take the possibility of a large scale Russian backed #smallpox bioterror incident seriously. The preparation involved stockpiling enough smallpox vaccines for every American (300M+) and actively monitoring for arge scale aerosolized release (#BioWatch).

The current #mpox vaccine (Jynneos) is a #smallpox vaccine.

It was developed because the threat of smallpox is NOT eradicated.

The vaccine has proven safe and effective. A million people have gotten it in the US since 2022 with a very low rate of serious complications.

If we can talk about widespread #genocide, it's time to start talking about vaccinating the vulnerable.

On June 24, 1763, William Trent, a fur trader commissioned at Fort Pitt, wrote in his journal after a failed negotiation between the British and the Delaware tribe. He stated that they had given the emissaries food, and as Trent wrote, “Out of our regard to them we gave them 2 Blankets and an (sic) Handkerchief out of the Small pox (sic) Hospital. I hope it will have the desired effect.”"

The antivaccinationist movement has a history in the 1930s (w/smallpox). Their same arguments began to appear around 1998 when the US began to take the threat of a #smallpox bio-terror attack seriously enough to start building a 300M dose vaccine stockpile.

The movement is not organic; it's not about measles vaccines. And what people do because of mistaken beliefs can absolutely affect everyone.

Smallpox has an R of ~6, a CFR of 30-100%, and effectively no one is immunized.
