Nature: Dozens of AI disease-prediction models were trained on dubious data. “Dubious data sets are being used to train artificial-intelligence models that are designed to predict people’s risk of stroke and diabetes, researchers report in a preprint1 on medRxiv. Some of the models seem to have been used in clinical settings, although it’s not clear whether this has led to flawed diagnoses. […]

THE CONSEQUENCES OF CIVILISATION

“The rise of civilization can roughly be described as the shift over the past 10,000 years from an existence within and deeply connected to the web of life, to one separated from and in control of the rest of life. Prior to civilization there generally existed ample leisure time, considerable gender autonomy and equality, a non-destructive approach to the natural world, the absence of organized violence, no mediating or formal institutions, and strong health and robusticity. Civilization inaugurated warfare, the subjugation of women, population growth, drudge work, concepts of property, entrenched hierarchies, and virtually every known disease, to name a few of its devastating derivatives. Civilization begins with and relies on an enforced renunciation of instinctual freedom. It cannot be reformed and is thus our enemy.”

(from the annals of "Green Anarchy")

I think one thing that escapes a lot of people's minds is just how responsible for illness and disease civilisation is. Put people in a concrete and asphalt environment and force them to work at jobs they often hate and watch them get sick, physically and mentally. The history of disease only really began when we started cramming people and their animals behind city walls and don't even get me started on mental health.

I'm still here... I'm still alive. Every day I try to hold on to hope, to dream of a future that seems so far away. The war has taken so much from us—my peace, my home, and my children's needs. But it hasn't taken my hope yet. Please don't ignore me. 🥺🫂🇵🇸 Stay by my side.

Israa's Hope: A Family's Fight to Rebuild After War

In the stillness after a night of bombardment, Israa, a devoted mother of three, and her husband lost not just a home, but the sense of safety that every family deserves. Once living in a large, loving home, their world changed in an instant when violence forced them into tents for months, and their house burned to ashes. Today, they face each day with courage, trying to secure the most basic needs: food, clean water, and education for Azam, Mira, and Abdullah, who needs nutritional supplements and speech therapy sessions that cost more than they can bear. 🫶

Mirna, it's been 7 days and I haven't received any donations, even though I'm living in difficult circumstances, I'm ill, and I need ongoing treatment. Why can't people look at patients with compassion and humanity? Please, I need your help, even if it's just a little. 🥺🥺🫂🇵🇸

Mystery disease leaves five dead in Burundi, with investigations ongoing

An outbreak of an undiagnosed illness in northern Burundi has led to five deaths and sickened 35 people, and investigations into the cause continue.1 Cases were first reported on 30 March in Mpanda district, centred on a single household and its contacts.2 Symptoms included fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, blood in urine, fatigue, and abdominal pain. In severe cases some patients have also presented with jaundice and anaemia. Authorities have tested patients’ samples for various viral haemorrhagic fevers, a class of diseases that cause bleeding and have high case fatality rates and that emerge intermittently across this region. However, laboratory tests have returned negative for Ebola and …
