Had my first early #Christmas get-together on Saturday evening. The closer to Christmas, the busier people are, and the worse traffic gets. So we like to be early. 🤪
'Twas a lovely evening. 😊
I learned something new!
Mi-sòaⁿ Chhin / 麵線親 / 面线亲
I'm translating it as "noodle relative/s". 😄 It's about relations like in #SixDegrees but with some relatives in the [thin] connecting threads. #Chinese #Fujian #Minnan #Hokkien #family
Do you folks have a similar thing in your #language? 😃
@TwoClownsEating @heapy just realized that’s a clip from the Elephant man, directed by Mat's favorite, David Lynch and starring John Hurt, who, in another vehicle appeared alongside Tim Roth and Terence Stamp in… wait for it, 'The Hit.'
Judith Chalmers may or may not have provided technical advice to the production.
There's more: The Hit was directed by Stephen Frears. When she was training as a nurse at Addenbrooke's in Cambridge my Mum had a date with Mr Frears. He was studying Law at Trinity college and took her out in his 'Bubble car'. You climbed in to it by opening a door comprising the bonnet and windshield.
Determined to plumb the depths of this rabbit hole, I scoured Wikipedia for evidence of a link between anyone previously mentioned and Kevin Bacon. Imagine my delight and astonishment to find this diagram on the Six degrees page. Because they both starred in the 2012 drama film 'Jayne Mansfield's Car,' John Hurt has a Bacon number of one. And so I suppose I have a 4. Tenuous, but joyfully claimed.

This is a concept I've always been fascinated by - the small world theory. Six degrees of separation, or fewer, between any two people you can think of. Seems highly improbable, but as Steve Strogatz puts it - "The math begs the question, not of "how is it possible that the world is that small" but, "how could it be otherwsie?"

I always love the international flavor of Marina Sofia's #6Degrees posts. This month's list takes us to Japan, Britain, Ancient Greece/Troy, Romania and Czarist Russia.

Marina Sofia's post this month is "a criss-crossing of oceans and time periods this month: the United States, Britain and Japan each appearing more than once."
