On the way back to Glasgow from Irvine Beach this afternoon, I passed this church lit beautifully by rays of the setting sun. It's the Riccarton Parish Church on Old Street in Kilmarnock and it was built in 1823 on Court Hill, the seat of the judicial executive for the area in feudal times. It's one of only two surviving structures from the old village of Riccarton.

Love this spirelet on Saint Mungo's Church in the Townhead area of Glasgow, with fish-scale bands and topped by an ornate iron cross with a rather unusual heart-shaped nimbus. The church was built in 1841 in an Italianate Gothic style from a design by George Goldie.

Saint John's the Evangelist Church in Barrhead near Glasgow. It was designed by Thomas S. Cordiner and was built in 1961. I love the hexagonal tiles on the front, and I wonder if this is a reference to religious orders keeping bees for their wax, which was traditionally used to make church candles.

The rather beautifully lit Saint Mirin's Cathedral in Paisley under this evening's rain clouds. Designed in a Romaneque style by Thomas Baird, it was built in the early 1930s.
