Il Papa che porta la croce, come a volersi caricare delle ferite del mondo insanguinato dai vari fronti di guerra. Ma non solo. La croce per portare anche le sofferenze di tante madri che soffrono e delle tante persone a cui è tolta la dignità.
Papa Leone XIV ha partecipato alla Via Crucis del Venerdì Santo al Colosseo.
Nei testi, meditati lungo le 14 stazioni, l’attualità del conflitto in Medioriente e gli 800 anni della morte di san Francesco d’Assisi. Forte il monito della prima stazione: chi avvia la guerra ne risponderà a Dio.
“Ogni autorità dovrà rispondere davanti a Dio del proprio modo di esercitare il potere ricevuto – ha meditato padre Patton nel testo -: il potere di giudicare, ma anche il potere di avviare una guerra o di terminarla, il potere di educare alla violenza o alla pace, il potere di alimentare il desiderio di vendetta o quello di riconciliazione, il potere di usare l’economia per opprimere i popoli o per liberarli dalla miseria, il potere di calpestare la dignità umana o di tutelarla, quello di promuovere e difendere la vita oppure di rifiutarla e soffocarla”.
Lungo il percorso la meditazione è stata incentrata anche sulle sofferenze delle madri che “ancora oggi vedono i propri figli arrestati, torturati, condannati, uccisi” e sui troppi tentativi di togliere la dignità alle persone. Non è mancata la preghiera per “i massacri e i genocidi” e un pensiero sul ruolo delle donne.
Durante la Via Crucis è stato ribadito che “il potere autentico non è quello di chi usa la forza e la violenza per imporsi, ma quello di chi è capace di prendere su di se il male dell’umanità”.

The Pope carrying the cross, as if wanting to shoulder the wounds of the world stained by various war fronts. But not only. The cross to also bear the suffering of many mothers who suffer and of many people to whom dignity has been taken.
Pope Leo XIV participated in the Way of the Cross on Good Friday at the Colosseum.
In the texts, meditated along the 14 stations, the current relevance of the conflict in the Middle East and the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. Strong the warning of the first station: whoever starts a war will answer God.
“Every authority must answer before God for the way they exercise the power received – meditated Father Patton in the text -: the power to judge, but also the power to start or end a war, the power to educate to violence or to peace, the power to fuel the desire for vengeance or that of reconciliation, the power to use the economy to oppress peoples or to liberate them from misery, the power to trample on human dignity or to protect it, the power to promote and defend life or to reject it and suffocate it.”
Along the path, the meditation was also focused on the suffering of mothers who “still today see their children arrested, tortured, condemned, killed” and on the many attempts to deprive people of their dignity. There was also prayer for “massacres and genocide” and a thought about the role of women.
During the Way of the Cross it was reiterated that “authentic power is not that of those who use force and violence to impose themselves, but that of those who are capable of taking upon themselves the evil of humanity.”

Papa Leone XIV nella sua prima Via Crucis lancia un messaggio preciso. Il Pontefice, infatti, ha deciso di portare personalmente la croce per tutte le 14 Stazioni, un gesto non scontato e, anzi, carico di significato. Tradizionalmente, infatti, la croce viene affidata a diversi gruppi o rappresentanti simbolici. La scelta di Leone di assumerla per l'intero percorso suggerisce una volontà di partecipazione diretta, quasi fisica, al racconto della Passione. Il Papa accompagna dunque ogni tappa del dolore e della redenzione, che attraversa integralmente il cammino. Una scelta che rappresenta un messaggio universale in un tempo segnato da conflitti e fratture.
Il Papa, con la mozzetta rossa e la stola, guida la cerimonia al Colosseo. "Un segno importante per quello che rappresenta il Papa che è un leader spirituale nel mondo , per questa voce che tutti vogliono sentire per dire che Cristo ancora soffre. Anche io porto tutta questa sofferenza nella mia preghiera'', ha spiegato Leone martedì scorso a Castel Gandolfo. "Vorrei invitare tutte le persone di buona volontà , di fede, i cristiani, a camminare insieme con Cristo che ha sofferto per noi per darci la salvezza, la vita, e cercare anche noi di essere portatori di pace e non di odio'', ha spiegato.
Secondo le autorità competenti sono circa "20mila, in aumento" i fedeli presenti al Colosseo. Al suo passaggio molti urlano a Prevost: "Viva il Papa".

Leo’s decision to take it for the entire journey suggests a desire for direct, almost physical participation in the narrative of the Passion. The Pope accompanies every stage of pain and redemption, traversing the path entirely. A choice that represents a universal message in a time marked by conflicts and divisions.
The Pope, with the red cloak and stole, leads the ceremony at the Colosseum. “An important sign for what the Pope represents as a spiritual leader in the world, for this voice that everyone wants to hear to say that Christ still suffers. I too carry all this suffering in my prayer,” Leo explained last Tuesday at Castel Gandolfo. “I would like to invite all people of goodwill, of faith, Christians, to walk together with Christ who suffered for us to give us salvation, life, and also for us to be carriers of peace and not of hatred,” he explained. According to the competent authorities, approximately “20,000, up in numbers” faithful were present at the Colosseum. As he passed, many shouted to Prevost: “Viva il Papa!” (Long Live the Pope!)
