John Honeyman's magnificent Barony North Church on Cathedral Square in Glasgow. Built in 1878, it's designed on an ornate Italianate style.

Constructed as a Free Church in 1895, it was designed in a Gothic style by W.F MacGibbon with a front based on the 13th Century Dumblane Cathedral.

It's been rather degraded over time, but there's just enough left of this carving on a spandrel of Shettleston Old Parish Church in Glasgow to see how beautiful it would originally have been. In particular, the snarling head of the creature emerging from the curls of foliage is still clearly visible at the very top.

Early morning sunlight streaming through the upper windows of T.L. Watson's 1883 Hillhead Baptist Church in the West End of Glasgow. While it looks pretty, this can only happen because its roof was removed several years ago, leaving this B-listed building open to the elements, and decaying.

The ornate gravestone of Richard Curtis in the churchyard of the former St Andrew's By the Green on Greendyke Street in Glasgow. This isn't Richard Curtis the film director who wrote Love Actually, the seasonal rom-com which always seems to be on a permanent loop on TV at this time of year (obviously!), but Richard Curtis the Glaswegian musical instrament maker who died in 1889.

Hopefully, it can be saved in some form or other, but history in Glasgow is not on its side. As always in cases like this, it is likely to depend on insurance, and in particular the willingness of an insurance company to make a sufficient pay-out in a timely fashion.

The B-listed Pollokshaws Church on Shawbridge Street in the Southside of Glasgow photographed today. One of the last surviving buildings from old Pollokshaws, it was built in a Georgian style in 1843 as the Pollokshaws Original Secession Church. Unfortunately, it was very badly damaged by a fire over the weekend, and is now little more than a shell.

Love the shape of this doorway on James Chalmers 1904 All Saints Episcopal Church on Woodend Drive in the Jordanhill area of Glasgow. The hinges on the door itself are pretty impressive, too!

Òran Mór in the West End of Glasgow at 4:11pm on the last Sunday afternoon in November. This former church was designed by J.J. Stevenson in an Italianate Gothic style and was built in the 1860s. It's now a popular arts venue and bar.

Nightfall at the imposing and rather stunning Kelvinside Hillhead Parish Church on Observatory Road in the West End of Glasgow. Designed in a French Gothic style by James Sellars, it was inspired by the medieval Sainte Chapelle in Paris.
