Hallo flipping.rocks! I am ater, of @ater fame, and I'm very excited to be here while my home server moves (like, physically).

For an #introduction, I am a blind visual artist and author, with a master's in wildlife ecology and a special interest in bees. You've just missed my self created challenge #SeptemBee, where I paint a different #bee every day for the entire month alongside the #SciArtSeptember prompt. Here are my four favorites.

#SciArtSeptember Day 30: Accrete.

This was a bit tricky, but today's blackwork embroidery pattern is a black hole with its accretion disk! I made it orange and black to emulate the illustration I took as inspiration.

Day 30 of #SciArtSeptember prompt dream: Kepler’s Somnium. This hand-printed linocut illustrates astronomer and mathematician Johannes Kepler’s science fiction story Somnium, or “The Dream”. Kepler (1571-1630) wrote the strange manuscript in Latin, and circulated it amongst friends, with the intention of eventually publishing it but he died before that could could happen. #SciArtSeptember Day 29: Scattering.

This blackwork embroidery pattern is my attempt at recreating Photo 51, the famous x-ray crystallography image of DNA. The DNA crystal diffracts the x-ray beams to create this pattern.

It's not bad, but I think it might work better on a larger scale (this uses a lot of fractional stitches!). Or perhaps it would be a good candidate for a shaded blackwork piece, in the style taught by the RSN.

I accidentally found this effect while brooming one day, is it scattering the light?
Uploading the vid so you can see how the rings of light change depending on the position of the reflecting metal.
