Biked 30 minutes through the snow to reach the darkroom, found out I left my paper at home, had to go back, and return again 🫠

This left me with time for only one print. (Not literally one print, but of one photo).

This is from a street rave last autumn. The bus had massive speakers in the back.

It took some time to get the lighting of the print even. For some reason, the left and right sides came out gray, so I had to burn them 🔥

Those who persist, eventually win, I guess? 🥲

Happy birthday to #mathematician & #astronomer Nicole-Reine Lepaute (1723-1788)! My #linocut celebrates her calculated path of the solar eclipse of 1764. She also worked with Alexis Clairaut & Jérôme Lalande to precisely calculate the date of return of Halley’s Comet, solving the notorious 3-body by hand (including the gravitational pull of Jupiter & Saturn on orbit). They worked in parallel, calculating for 6 months straight, barely stopping to eat!🧵

Rhiannon’s Birds | The Legend of Syfaddan – Hannah Firmin

This print is a cautionary tale about being an artist in a certain college town for too long (and for reaaaaally loving the 1mm v-gouge carving blade!)

One of very very few multi-block prints I've done! #linocut #printmaking #art #alligator

Another of scientists without a known birthday: my #linocut of ancient Chinese Han Dynasty #polymath & statesman Zhang Heng (78-139) who invented a seismoscope (simplified seismometer which does not make a record of earth motions) to detect distant earthquakes & indicate their direction, 2000 years ago! Here with a reconstruction of his seismoscope, schematic of how it might have worked & 🧵

I got a used sizzix (hand crank die cut machine) for use as a tiny press to make prints. Slowly but surely learning how to get a decent amount of pressure.

“If it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing.” These are words I often live by. My son recently started experimenting with #linocut printing and made me this for Xmas. I framed it and hung it on my shop wall with some other maker art. #maker #printmaking #woodworking #framing

Starting 2026 with some unknown birthdays: Margaret Lucas Cavendish, Duchess of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (1623 – 1673), 17th-century English aristocrat, philosopher, poet, scientist, writer, with her imaginary world from her strange sci-fi novel ‘The Blazing World’ which she appended to her treatise ‘Observations upon Experimental Philosophy’. An odd addition to my collection of scientists, 🧵

First print set of '26.
I haven't worked with fountain pens in a while as I've been enjoying working with Signo gel pens. In 2025 I learned a lot about tone creation via line spacing so excited to see what is possible with the large variety of fountain pen inks.
