On the new Resistant Communiqués:  Dr. Karma R. Chávez, #Professor and President of the #AAUP Chapter at UT Austin, co-founder of UT Austin Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine #FSJP, and the co-editor of The #HigherEd Advocate, discusses the beltway #LGBT movements' mainstream #assimilationist politics, and the #radical politics of queerness through the lens of Against Equality.

In the 1990s, LGBT politics became mainstream and decidedly centrist, in a way fundamentally different from #queer politics. What are the actual #politics of #queerness? It’s an ability to look past the restrictions of #gender and #sexuality, even as it relates to straight, #cisgendered people.

It changes your understanding of what equality really means: Is participation in the #militaryindustrialcomplex actually a good thing? Is marriage, with all of its connections to property and #patriarchy, a good thing? Is expanding the prison industrial complex through #hatecrimes legislation, which disproportionately targets #queer, #trans, and #Black, #Indigenous, and #racially minoritized, people a good thing? These are the questions to ask as we leave Pride.

#Pride is hollowed out, under attack, & part of a wider #conservative assault on what they mockingly call “grievance studies”: #gender, #ethnic, & #queer studies all combined in this coordinated siege. But there is #resistance. Listen to #KarmaChávez ‘s #ResistantCommuniqués #Podcast #episode: bit.ly/rc2026karmac...
On the latest Resistant Communiqués, Ijeoma Oluo explains how #harm is a problem that can only be resolved in #community, even among #activists who are often dealing with their own #trauma. Which means you need people grounded in managing #conflict. Listen to #IjeomaOluo's #ResistantCommuniques #Poscast #episode: bit.ly/rc2026ijeomaoluo
Ijeoma Oluo explains the corrosive role that #carceral logics & thinking play in undermining movements. It alienates #organizers from one another and makes it harder to build a genuine #community or act in solidarity. Effective #organizing has to be rooted in care, trust, & supporting one another to collectively grow & learn. As Oluo makes clear, to get over this, you must “kill the cop in your head”. We are living in an information vacuum. As Anna Lekas Miller discusses in her #ResistantCommuniqués #podcast episode, "We need local, trusted news outlets to follow up on these claims. But almost 40% of #localnews sources have vanished in the past 10 years, and 50 million Americans are without or with limited access to a #newssource." When trusted local #journalism disappears, we lose the ability to critically analyze the truth. #Listen to AnnaLekasMiller's #episode: https://bit.ly/rc2026annalekasmiller

#AI #propaganda or "human slop"? We're seeing a shift where even balanced voices perform outrage to beat the #algorithm. From harmless #deepfakes to dangerous rumors, the incentive structure of social media is breaking our grasp on context.
