"This [i.e., Dolores Huerta speaking out about her sexual abuse by Cesar Chavez] is an important opportunity to think about how movements for civil rights and social justice are not immune to the patriarchy and all its violence. There is no place for violence against women and gender non-binary people in the fight for economic and racial justice."

Another Lesson from Dolores Huerta: The Patriarchy Has No Place in Social Justice

Movements for civil rights and social justice are not immune to the patriarchy and all its violence. But every day, we work to root it out.

Perfect timing as last night I watched a PBS documentary on female gladiators that we are now admitting existed.

#AnneHutchinson was expelled from the #Puritan #MassachusettsBayColony on #ThisDayInHistory in 1638. Her great 'crime' was preaching sermons, attracting a following, and teaching the Bible while 'unfortunately' being a woman. #Patriarchy and #misogyny are crimes against humanity.

-because as the Bible says: They don’t know what they do! #humans #male #men #patriarchy #idiocracy

misogyny and misandry not only relate to collective wounds from patriarchy (& related systems) but often involve personal trauma and unexamined individual shadow

you don't have to hate everything feminine or masculine to oppose patriarchy

the darkest parts of either don't constitute the whole

it was patriarchy that split them in the first place

Conversation with patriarchy:

Male: "There are so many females in college but not a lot of males anymore. "

Me: "There was a time when females were denied access to a college education. And now that females are getting an education and skilled positions, we're still underpaid by the males who hold tight the reigns of oppression."

Male: "Women can be even more oppressive than males, especially when they have any position of power. "

Me: "And that's a byproduct of patriarchal oppression. Females internalize that they are supposed to hate, dislike, resent and compete against one another when that's not our authentic nature. In order to survive having any power within a patriarchal structure, the message is 'separate yourself to survive' and the reason for this is strategic. Those who gather, organize. Those who are pitted against one another remain disorganized and in a more subservient state."

Male: "I disagree that males are like this. I'm not like this. I think that's wrong."

Backseat passenger assuages the male to help mitigate any threat to patriarchal authority.

Me: 'This is so typical of patriarchal oppression. The patriarchy gets butthurt and the conversation ends.'

Convo ended.

She is talking now, as I listen, about women being water carriers and as climate change makes their daily journeys longer, it increases not only their working day but also the risk of sexual violence.

Climate change is a problem caused by and exploited by the patriarchy.
