Most #republics have. In fact, I cannot think of a republic where this straight swap of monarch to president happened in the way envisioned, and that seems to be an erroneous premise.

Everyone points to the USA as an example (although many later republics fixed the USA's bugs) so note that #AlexanderHamilton wrote Federalist 69 on how the USA president was intentionally not a straight swap for a king.
