Black Ships?
What is the narrative purpose of the Black Ships in the Traveller mythology? When were they first encountered? Are they supposed to represent an ancient threat, like B5’s Shadows? Are they technologically superior to the Third Imperium and thus an invasion risk, like Star Trek’s Borg? Are they something you throw at your players when they’re “doing it wrong” to discourage a given course of action? Help me understand where they fit into the setting.

I had the pleasure of staying in Bora Bora twice, over several years ,just a few hours for a swim and to get a little tan , unfortunately I was not there for the holiday 😅 . I can say it was a wonderful experience.

Still a work in progress, but I’m happy with how this is turning out. The 15-year-old me was fascinated with the Traveller rules for system creation (the LBB version). I still am! But now, while my astrophysics lessons are way behind me (36 years ago, more or less), I can still fix some of the system generation mistakes (for example, planets or gas giants in too-far orbits, e.g.,in the Oort Cloud). My code now generates not only the main world in a system, but all planets, gas giants, planetoid belts, and all of their satellites, including day length and year length, taking into account tide-locked planets or satellites, etc.

One player almost died in low berth, the crew met Oleb and Rao, received their orders... and then spent the next hour debating what kind of privateers they wanted to be.
No plans survived contact with the players, which means the campaign is off to a perfect start. 😄 The crew of the Golden Piraea is officially underway.
