Innocent Man Beaten by Police WON’T Get His Day in Court

In no small part thanks to qualified immunity, it is nigh impossible for victims of government abuse to seek recourse. The "Anti-Weaponization Fund" is not reform; it is a mockery of justice. https://reason.com/2026/05/22/trumps-anti-weaponization-fund-is-built-on-a-contradiction/

Trump's 'Anti-Weaponization Fund' is built on a contradiction

The president has fought to make sure alleged victims of government misconduct cannot get compensation. What changed?

The #LARiots began on #ThisDayInHistory in 1992 over the acquittal of #RodneyKing's abusers. In five days, 63 were killed, 2383 wounded, and a billion in property damage done. Somehow we're still "debating" #PoliceBrutality, #QualifiedImmunity, & #racism.

Supreme Court Shrugs Off Opportunity To Save The First Amendment From The Fifth Circuit’s Antipathy

The Supreme Court’s latest recap of its relative inactivity (Trump administration “emergency” appeals aside) has delivered yet more evidence of this court’s indifference to …

You can't have content without the capability to record that content. You can't have media about the government wihout access to government records. That's the existing standard. The #SupremeCourt has ruled on this already. Now they've shat the bed. They just allowed a lower court to block a case using the voided-by-congress legislated-from-the-bench doctrine called #QualifiedImmunity. This was established settled law before qualified immunity was innovated in the 1960s to protect a cabinet member, let alone in the 1990s when they gave a beat cop the same rules. When #AntoninScalia warned us with a chapter in a book about the court's problems, and #SoniaSotomayor agrees with him, where are the other judges?

Arresting a reporter for asking questions was a First Amendment violation, Sotomayor says

Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented from the Supreme Court's denial of a petition from a Texas journalist who was charged with felonies.

Once again really disappointed in the US Supreme Court for summarily reversing and dismissing in Zorn v. Linton.

Shela Linton is a personal friend, and she deserves better than this. Justice Sotomayor's dissent lays out clearly why the majority is flatly wrong to issue summary judgement in this case.

Why it matters:

This decision makes it harder to hold police legally responsible after crowd confrontations, signaling courts are still putting officer protections ahead of protesters' rights.
