International Women’s Day is a public holiday in Berlin. ❤️

But in 2026 it fell on a Sunday - so most employees didn’t actually benefit from the day off.

In the UK, when a public holiday falls on a weekend, it’s usually moved to the next working day. This year that would have meant Monday.

A small adjustment, but a decent gesture toward employees - ensuring the holiday is actually felt and not just symbolic.

Good morning tooters. I hope everyone in the hot areas was able to get some sleep. It was still 36c outside when I went to bed last night & so the aircon remained on. I woke up at 4.30 & it was about 22c outside, turned off the aircon opened all windows & the back sliding glass door. Then back to bed for another hour or so of sleep which was more of a doze. Not exactly a restful sleep. I think I’ll be feeling a bit raggedy today - all week probably 😂. It was still 22c when I got up & there’s a lovely breeze outside, the garden looks ok & I’ve watered again & refilled the birdbaths & water containers for anything that needs it.
I knew it was a public holiday today, but when you’re retired you don’t really think about it & you sometimes forget that places are closed. I’d planned to ring the optometrist to try & get in & have my eyelashes dealt with & get in contact with the public dentist about a tooth I’ve broken a bit off. So those issues will annoy me for another 24hrs. Could be worse!
Going out for a little while this morning though, just to pick up those eggs & grab some milk & that will be it. Apparently power was restored around midnight for my son & family, he’s happier now.
I have lots of little birds flitting around the garden & the birdbaths. Mostly sparrows but some I don’t recognise. They’re little like a sparrow, sleeker looking though with a longer tail & beak. Very cute.
