Plänterwald is a section of the Treptow-Köpenick district of Berlin and created in 1760 as a production forest. In 1876, Treptower Park was added to the forest and functioned entirely as a recreational area for the city of Berlin. In 1969, in honour of the GDR's 20th anniversary, Kulturpark Plänterwald was opened: the first and only permanent amusement park in the GDR. The Ferris wheel was a special and most eye-catching attraction, renewed in 1989 in honour of the GDR's 40th anniversary. After the political shift in the same year, it was privatised in 1991 and renamed Spreepark Berlin. Step by step, the amusement park was converted to western standards. Declining visitor numbers caused the company to fail in 2001. Since then, the park has been in decline and several attractions, including the Ferris wheel, have been dismantled. An arts and culture park has since become planned for the site. The Ferris wheel will be restored and rebuilt, as will other parts of former attractions. The park will reopen in 2026.

Everyday life at Potsdamer Platz, Berlin 2015 - image: Sabrina Krabbenhoeft

During the day, Potsdamer Platz is a melting pot of tourists, visitors and traffic. At night, the area feels like a ghost town within Berlin, as few people actually live there. With its restaurants, shops, entertainment venues and hotels, the people of Berlin try to make as much money as possible from visitors and tourists in the square and the surrounding area.

People can’t live without other people. We are with each other, we observe each other, we love each other and we hate each other. That’s why ohoh.store is paying homage to people by offering twelve postcards featuring images of people at the very affordable price of €0.60.

Sabrina Krabbenhoeft successfully graduated from the Minerva art academy in Groningen in 1998. She then moved to Berlin, where she learned various massage techniques. With these, she earned her income and sometimes provided a photograph for a postcard. Sabrina currently lives and works in Nordenham and works there as a journalist for the local newspaper.

The photographic documentary ‘Irish Travellers’ depicts the daily life of an ethnic group, originally from Ireland, who lead a nomadic existence on the British Isles. They earn their living mainly by trading horses at horse markets. Opposition from government bodies, intolerance and land rights issues are causing their nomadic way of life to disappear.

Sebastian Hesse-Kastein makes photo documentaries alongside his work as a journalist for the German Broadcasting Corporation. His long-term projects are about small communities that maintain their own traditions and way of life and do not follow the rules of globalisation.

Every year on 1 May, the Revolutionary 1 May demonstration takes place in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin. This tradition dates back to the late 1980s. The demonstration, which consists mainly of people with left-wing political views, is accompanied by large numbers of police riot units. For several years, the demonstration ended in violent clashes between the police and demonstrators.

With photographs of landscapes, cityscapes and people, Michel Meijer tells stories about religious devotion and human activities in their own living environment.

This photograph is from Christian Reister’s early work; today, he mainly photographs in black and white.
