More than half of the world’s land area is in a precarious state, according to a new study mapping the #PlanetaryBoundary of functional biosphere integrity - in spatial detail and across centuries. 38% of global land is already in the high-risk zone.

oceans acidified

I've covered ocean acidification many years ago, when it was beginning to emerge as a threat to corals and other calcifying sea organisms, a...

So I learned yesterday, that Aluminium Oxide is very bad for the Ozone Layer

Also learned, there are currently 6000 #Starlink satellites that gravitate around Earth and plan is to send 12000 more in the coming years.
They have a life expectancy of 5 years, and each one of them produce about 30kg of Aluminium Oxide when burning in the atmosphere...

So, in short, #Musk is screwing up, the only #planetaryBoundary we almost crossed and managed to revert from...

Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites could damage the environment for decades, study says

Mega satellite constellations produce destructive gases when they burn up in atmosphere at end of service lives

#NateHagens new podcast episode with #Rockström ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaboF3vAsZs

Good questions by Nate, intermediate level answers by Rockström. About the 9 #PlanetaryBoundary , a bit about the 16 tipping elements, the inter-connectedness of it all. I hope, especially techies give this episode a go. Because: phasing out fossil fuels is not enough to successfully combat #ClimateChange . We do need a healthy planet to do this. An Earth system that helps us buffering the stress we caused by GHG.
Novel Entities kill biodiversity = land carbon sink functions less well. Nitrogen overload from fertilizer kills lakes and the Baltic Sea, also a carbon sink.
And so on.
We urgently do need to get back into and then stay within all planetary boundaries. PV and wind turbines aren't enough to tackle the #PlanetaryEmergency 🙂
