Digital euro - I read the entire digital euro rulebook v0.9, and it finally includes the Pay-by-Link (PBL) feature, which is exactly what I’ve been looking for. SEPI with tokenized DEAN.

Historical rant mode

I’ve always hated that Finnish banks, for example, do not support the payto: standard. It would make payments really simple by using a channel- and platform-agnostic link.

Someone mentioned that one Finnish bank (I don’t remember which one) supported it, but most do not. In practice, I have never actually seen it used.

@sparfindig Back to this.

Even if Finland adopted the EPC QR codes officially. Implementation is afaik optional and when asking around in forums and chats I didn't find single instance of usage or anyone saying it would work. ;) Same of course applies to the payto:// URI scheme. Not working, not being used, not being offered, not present.

In Finland there's the "pankkiviivakoodi" - "bank bar code" which does contain payment information, but it's national standard and usually encoded using code128, yet technically of course nothing prevents storing the same data in QR code. Fintag adds a crucial layer of protection against scams and accidental payments. On PayTo, all you need is a fintag.json file on your website to get a verified blue checkmark. And Fintag can do much more: https://payto.onl/solutions/fintag

Instant SEPA payments in EU euro-area work finally. But there’s one more question, which I’ve asked several times but haven’t received any answer: “Why do banks refuse to support QR code payments, even if there’s the payto: URI scheme standard for it?” #euro #payments #banking #EU #QRcode #payto
