Digital euro - I read the entire digital euro rulebook v0.9, and it finally includes the Pay-by-Link (PBL) feature, which is exactly what I’ve been looking for. SEPI with tokenized DEAN.

Historical rant mode

I’ve always hated that Finnish banks, for example, do not support the payto: standard. It would make payments really simple by using a channel- and platform-agnostic link.

Someone mentioned that one Finnish bank (I don’t remember which one) supported it, but most do not. In practice, I have never actually seen it used.

"Lloyds, Bank of Scotland and Halifax apps showed customers other users' transactions"

But one woman told BBC News she was able to see the accounts of six different users on the Bank of Scotland app, including some National Insurance numbers, over a 20-minute period.

The 55-year-old from Kirkcaldy, Fife - who didn't want to be named - also reported being able to view benefits payments from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), which use National Insurance numbers of recipients as a payment reference.

Open banking is driven by two forces: regulation and market demand. In Europe, PSD2 mandates bank data sharing. In the US, the CFPB oversees open banking rules. Some markets, such as India, use government-built data infrastructure instead.

Open banking allows consumers to share financial data with authorized third-party providers via APIs. It expands consumer choice and enables new financial products beyond what traditional banks offer alone.

@bitchboss
Oooh, I like that.

I would envision open source applications interacting with open banking APIs.

Too bad that banks here in Aotearoa/New Zealand are still quite a bit behind the race on that side. However you in Europe should have some better cuts on that.

Question is: Would it even be possible, or do only 'certified' or 'licensed' entities get access to those open banking APIs?
