Evidence shows that arguing our case rarely convinces others. It’s social relationships and actions that have that power, says author Sarah Stein Lubrano

SERRCistä osui silmiin Neil Levyn terävä analyysi Blake Roeberin 2024 kirjasta Political Humility, joka koskee poliittisen tiedon mahdollisuutta, https://social-epistemology.com/2024/10/15/enjoying-humble-pie-reflections-on-roebers-political-humility-neil-levy/

Torppaako IDC - identity-protective cognition - tosiaankin sellaisen "in our hyperpartisan world", niin että jää vain vaihtelevan sivistyneitä arvauksia jos niitäkään, vai missä Roeber erehtyy?

Is the tax revenue from rich really meaningful or is this just leftist symbolism?

In Finland not, middle class has the mass with some revenue effect.

In a #37c3 presentation by to NGO's, the lady said something like "we even got the symbol victory"--

A SYMBOLIC VICTORY 🥶 – as that isn't #MysideBias, ideologies, narratives etc. in action ruining collective rationality. Sadly emphasizes one aspect of Germany that I wonder deeply and am sad about.

Partisan bias was found in people's evaluation of the validity of pseudo-arguments for *political* conclusions, but not in their evaluations of the validity of pseudo-arguments for "neutral" conclusions.

This reply from Steven Roberts to critique of Roberts et al. 2020 is, on first approach, damning.

As a researcher working on #mysidebias, Keith Stanovich's work has necessarily been a foundation for my own. Generally I'm permissive regarding political spectrum, so, for example, that Stanovich published pieces with Quillette wasn't something I, per se, threw my arms up at. The actions, the attitude he's accused of here by Roberts, however, go beyond the pale.

Social media is catnip for myside bias. It's really quite overwhelming to observe. All the more so that I often, when I'm fortunate, find myself observing it in my own activity.

As such, I begin to suspect humility of spirit is a key salve. Firstly, in the courage to step back from a hasty analysis or critique. Secondly, in the empathy to allow others to do so.

Swollen with pride, we cannot advance.

And after spending some time on Mastodon, it's instructive following some heated Twitter "arguments" between different sides.
The #misrepresentations the #strawmanning, the #diversions, the unnecessary #aggression.
The #fallacies, the "my side" bias, the lack of #logicalreasoning and general #dishonesty is more obvious than ever.
Oh... and dont forget the bald arsed assertions. These usually come with, "It's true but you just don't want to see it."
