🧠 New paper by Deistler et al: #JAXLEY: differentiable #simulation for large-scale training of detailed #biophysical #models of #NeuralDynamics.

They present a #differentiable #GPU accelerated #simulator that trains #morphologically detailed biophysical #neuron models with #GradientDescent. JAXLEY fits intracellular #voltage and #calcium data, scales to 1000s of compartments, trains biophys. #RNNs on #WorkingMemory tasks & even solves #MNIST.

Trichosporeae is the most #species-rich, systemically complex, and #morphologically diverse tribe in the Old World Gesneriaceae. Liu et al. report 5 new genera based on molecular #phylogenetic and #morphological evidence.

Below a #grasshopper nymph of the #Chorthippus #biguttulus #group, including closely related European #species C. biguttulus, C. brunneus, and C. mollis. They cannot be clearly differed #morphologically, only by their #songs. B. Gottsberger & F. Mayer (2019) studied mechanisms of #speciesboundarystabilization between C. brunneus/C. biguttulus, which can #hybridize. But hybrids exhibit #songpreferences of C. biguttulus females.

@ehud @linguistics @languagelovers Depends on whether you're talking about about #morphologically marked #presenttense or the ability to indicate the present. Morphologically, there are certainly #languages that mark #habitualaspect rather than present tense. For example, some varieties of #LouisianaCreole only mark habitual aspect and then use a separate marker to indicate whether it's habitual in the past (w/marker) or present (w/o marker).
