Day 2 of #100DaysOfCode
Today, I explored Python’s primitive data types, error handling, and type conversion. I even created a Tip Calculator 🧮.
Looking forward to improving my skills with every line of code!
Here’s my project:

I recently watched a video about Radon mitigation. I always thought the vent pipe and UFO shaped things I occasionally spotted were just rich folks being "extra" with their dryer exhaust. But now I know! #TMYK #LearningEveryDay
Lifestyle | Foodie | Family | Bryony on Instagram: "Winnie. My wild child. My curly girl. So proud of how hard she tries despite the challenges she has, what I find hard to see sometimes is everyone posting how their children are thriving but not each childhood is like that and not everything comes easy - of course got to take into account not everyone posts their struggles online and not everyone is honest online - and you don't have to be, no one needs to post their sh*t on the Internet. Winnie is a creative soul - the crafts she makes with cardboard and sellotape is incredible. She loves to paddleboard and knows how to swim. She's coming out her shell at Beavers now and can give you good banter and quips that surprise you. It isn't something I speak about often to people because it feels like I just see all these parents/carers only ever sharing the positive things, the positive thriving school reports where their kids are successful at everything - and honestly that's awesome for them but I didn't have that experience at school (most people who met me diagnose me with ADHD) and neither does Winnie - School is where the challenge lies. Since being in Reception it was noticed her learning and communication was different to other children and 2 years later she's now on the waiting list to be diagnosed with autism which is taking a very very long time. She was diagnosed with a speech impediment at 5 so that has meant reading is a challenge and they think she's dyslexic so writing is also a challenge... Every success feels bigger, any time she speaks to another child I want to celebrate, whenever she comes home with a terrific ticket for simply trying is a reward day. I've never had a child with learning differences so it's a learning curve for me too and I need to learn patience with it and no matter how frustrating it can be it's 100x worse for her but she tries and tries and thats all that matters I think. Her little happy face when she creates or swims or joins in on something is something special. Finding what works for you in learning is key and she's so loving, caring and considerate and I'm very proud of her. She was my surprise wild card and I wouldn't change her for the world."

Day 1 of posting to social media until I get an offensive security research job

First, I’m going to start with what I know – Windows. I need to recreate what I had access to at Microsoft, so that starts by setting up a dev environment and finding a copy of Windows System Internals, perhaps the greatest resource for learning Windows out there. My expertise is in Windows and virtualization, so I’m going to make sure I master those areas.

Next, I don’t think I want to grind coding exercises, but I do need to shake the rust off my coding skills. I think I’m going to start with some HackTheBox challenges and find some CTFs to participate in.

Finally, my long overdue goal: learn Rust. I’m not sure if this will help immediately, as I could choose to improve my knowledge of Python. But Rust was getting more and more popular in the areas of Windows I was tasked with protecting, so I need to learn what all the fuss is about with regards to memory safety.

If anyone is on a similar journey, let’s hold each other accountable in the comments! I will be sure to document any write-ups at blog.maxrenke.com (work in progress).

No, you're not a bad PERSON for having been rude to a disabled person or people before.
But the BEHAVIOURS can be bad.

Yes, the assumption of "knowing" someone else's intent (often negative, from experience) hurts people.

Disabled people get that a lot. Ask me how I know. Yes, disabled people do it to each other too. Almost like we're also human individuals or something. 🙀

(d/Deaf people, I'm not trying to overreach here, sorry. I'm more responding to things other hearing people have said to me when I mention how gd useful and interesting BSL is.)

No, not everyone else wants to "just learn English".

Should they have to anyway, just because it'd be easier for *you*?

Would you like to learn Portuguese, Swahili, or Hindi? Many people speak those languages too.

Except try learning when you can't hear other speakers very well, and it's tonal, and people assume you're being rude EVERY single time you make an honest mistake.

British Sign Language - Learn BSL Online

While I'm at it: learn BSL!
(Or the gestural / facial expression language, created by and for d/Deaf people in your region.
ASL can mean American Sign Language or Australian Sign Language.)

Even just enough to say "hello, my name is..., how are you?, goodbye" is a huge step, thank you!

British Sign Language is important for d/Deaf culture across the UK. It's useful in noisy or distance environments too.

Consider pubs, train stations, through windows in a car or building, or communicating near a housemate, child or pet who is sleeping.
(These are examples of 'situational disability'. Anyone can be affected by a situational disability, including otherwise abled people.)

British Sign Language

British Sign Language was recognised as a language in its own right in 2003 and legally as an official language of Britain in 2022.

Learn about Active Listening. It's literally just listening, tbqh.
Pay attention with intent to understand, not to form your reply.

Yes, this is a skill for d/Deaf people, people who are Hard of Hearing (HoH), people with auditory impairments or Auditory Processing Disorder, too.

(APD is like when d/Dyslexic people or other ND people struggle to understand what you say in a café or restaurant.)

To listen can mean "to intake sensory input or search for information" as well as "to hear sound or speech".

Essential skills for an excellent career

Mutual Aid? It means "to help other people".

Mutual means something is shared, 'held in common' or by 'multiple parties, toward each other'. To aid someone means to help, support, or assist them.

You do not need to enjoy or 'agree' with other people to want them to not feel pain or discomfort.
You do not need to solve everyone's problems. You do not need to solve anyone's problems.

You're not their therapist, social worker, parent or carer, supervisor, auditor, personal assistant, or authority figure.
You are not responsible for their actions after you offer / give help.
Free yourself from that responsibility.
Be kind; then return to your own life.

What is Mutual Aid?

Mutual aid is where people in an area, or a community, come together to support one another, collectively meeting each other’s needs without the help of official bodies like the state or NGOs. It often arrises due to neglect of government provision for certain classes of people. Mutual aid, in s
