Hoodoo Gurus confirm Australian tour this Nov/Dec, promising to play every single hit somewhere along the line

Forty-five years on, and Hoodoo Gurus are still the hippest dudes in the room. No polite heritage slot, just a band with good hooks, great riffs, and an attitude that refuses to age out, the band is set to present The Rewind Tour, promising a set list that is “all killer, no filler‘ in prominent venues in Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Says frontman Dave Faulkner, “We’ve often been described as a ‘singles  band’, so for this tour we’re gonna embrace that notion by only playing  songs that were released as singles.”

That means no B-sides, no album tracks, just a classic Australian act honing in on the hits. Well, perhaps a few misses as well…

“It’s funny,” continues Faulkner, “but some  of our biggest flops went on to become some of our most beloved songs. Axegrinder horrified radio programmers back in the day [but soon] become a fan-favourite, which it remains to this day.”

The band are aiming to play every one of their 42 singles at  least once somewhere during the tour, so no matter what city you’re seeing a show in, the night ought to be a fab jukebox of psyche-pop, garage snarl and radio gold.

Favourites that spring to mind – and that are sure to be played – include What’s My Scene, My Girl, Like Wow Wipeout, Miss Freelove ’69, and of course Good Times.

The Melbourne stop at Live at the Gardens on Sunday 6 December feels especially fitting, where under open skies, surrounded by the city’s green gardens, the Gurus’ sound will stretch out and glow — part rock show, part communal singalong, all joy.

Tickets go on sale Tuesday 23 June at 1pm, with presales from Monday 22 June at noon.

Four and a half decades deep, Hoodoo Gurus aren’t slowing down but instead appear to be locking in, with support from two other coolcat outfits in Ratcat and Stems.

With Anzac Day tomorrow (25 April), I thought it would be a good time to post this song by Australian band Hoodoo Gurus, who maybe don't get the attention they deserve.

This is not their usual sound, and the lyrics are pretty funny (adult content warning!) but it is very catchy.

I didn't post the film clip because it hasn't aged well at all - a bit uncomfortable to watch now.

HOODOO GURUS
Stoneage Romeos
1984 Canada pressing

An absolutely perfect, jangly #80s #alternative record from Down Under.

As much as I really like the other Gurus albums as well, THIS will always be their best record. It’s just so fucking FUN on every front, and it’s mixed and produced to perfection.

This Canadian press has a different running order AND (inferior) cover than the original Australian press, but who cares? All the songs are here, and they’re all AWESOME.

As near-perfect of a 37 minutes that you could ever want.

Oggi si ascoltano gli Hoodoo Gurus, band garage rock e power pop australiana, che alla notizia che una delle loro canzoni era stata usata da membri del partito neofascista asutraliano One Nation hanno reagito così:

«We were disgusted to hear that one of our songs was played by a bunch of wannabe fascists yesterday (One Nation). Like most Australians, we have always been appalled by Pauline Hanson and the toxic nonsense she spouts. This is our message to her and her followers: don’t play our music, don’t listen to our band, do not pass go! We want nothing to do with you. In fact, we wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire».

Hoodoo Gurus' Dave Faulkner lashes One Nation use of hit song

Faulkner says One Nation and its supporters can "take a running jump" after his band's song was used at an Australia Day rally held by the party, and he's not bothered by party supporters trolling him on social media.

Hoodoo Gurus have told One Nation and its followers to stop playing and listening to their music. Seems like they got some unwanted airplay at a rally. Good for them! #auspol #HoodooGurus
