Les frères D'Addario ont collaboré de près au nouvel album d'Uni Boys. Pas étonnant au fond : The Lemon Twigs et Uni Boys pratiquent la même #powerpop d'inspiration 60s ou 70s.
Mais l'élève dépasse ici le maître. Quand j'écoute The Lemon Twigs, je perçois trop souvent l'esbroufe en mode "Voyez comme nous avons vraiment l'air d'un groupe des années 70 !".
Avec Uni Boys, tout semble plus naturel et spontané : l'émotion qui me saisit lorsque j'entends "Without a broken heart" n'est jamais entachée de la sensation que je suis en train d'écouter un habile pastiche 70s.

A fun, jaunty upbeat #80s #newwave #powerpop #alternative record for a Friday night.
SBT’s only full-length studio album, which surprised me, because it sounds so good in the context of what was happening at the time.
It’s big, bright, and shiny with great sounding guitars, nice hooks, and expert production.
“Slide Away” is a killer rocker, and is the album’s highlight for me.
Super-enjoyable record.

Friday is finally here!
Celebrating with one of my all-time favorite compilations.
A KILLER assortment of #80s #alternative , #synthpop , #newwave and #powerpop with some of my most beloved underground bands of that decade.
Bands like Jet Black Berries, Leaving Trains, Red Kross, Rain Parade, Green On Red, and Game Theory just to name a few.
However, one song in particular was the sole reason I bought this.
John Trubee was a bit of a cult figure. An underground poet, writer and musician whose claim to fame is the song that appears here, “A Blind Man’s Penis”.
The song made him an underground celebrity in the #80s & this is only one of about 500 compilations that the song has appeared on.
I’ve looked for the 7” single for years, but have never come across one.
When I saw that it was on this comp, it was no brainer.

When I was a kid I got a copy of Something/Anything by Todd Rundgren and it really didn't do anything for me, I traded it in which I now regret because 30s Ben considers it an absolute masterpiece with almost every song being among the best he ever wrote. Essential for anybody who enjoys #powerpop

A glimmering batch of EXCELLENT #1980s #alternative #powerpop .
Jimmy had a weird career, and an even weirder life.
He was well-respected as a songwriter; which was evident in bands like The Smithereens and The Young Fresh Fellows covering his songs. However, Jimmy never really attained any significant success.
Perhaps if he was able to hang around a little longer, he could have had a slow burn ascent, & perhaps some late-career flowers.
Unfortunately, Jimmy died in 1994 at the age of 42 from…wait for it… complications from CHICKEN POX.
A VERY bizarre ending for a very talented singer/songwriter.
These songs are just fantastic. If I had to compare him to somebody, maybe there’s some Westerberg-ian traits there, as well as some Tommy Keene?
Regardless, just a phenomenal album of jangly and catchy songs.
