Day 36
#365project

A view of the Great Orme from the promenade in Llandudno. The Great Orme takes its name from an old norse word for "sea serpent" because of the way it looks jutting out into the sea.

If you can zoom in enough you can kind of see the head of the serpent jutting into the Irish Sea looking a bit like a crocodile.

For those averse to YouTube embeds, here's my vertical video edit. The YouTube version is widescreen, unedited (unsegmented), and features both the up and down portions.

A palate cleanser between courses of Pony Express dust. I drove Ty-Gwyn Road up the Great Orme at Llandudno, Conwy, North Wales. This is a 2x hyperlapse, there and back again.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 When you think of #cablecars, you immediately think of picturesque chairlifts in snowy or fresh green mountain landscapes. But the longest cable car (approximately 1 mile) in the United Kingdom actually runs right along the coast. The ride goes from #Llandudno to the top of the #GreatOrme. From the gondola, you have a view of the city and the pier, which has been voted Pier of the Year in 2025.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Pan fyddwch chi'n meddwl am geir cebl, rydych chi'n meddwl ar unwaith am lifftiau cadeiriau hardd mewn tirweddau mynyddig gwyrddlas neu eira. Ond mae'r car cebl hiraf (tua 1 milltir) yn y Deyrnas Unedig mewn gwirionedd yn rhedeg ar hyd yr arfordir. Mae'r reid yn mynd o Landudno i ben y Gogarth. O'r gondola, mae gennych olygfa o'r ddinas a'r pier, sydd wedi'i ethol yn Bier y Flwyddyn yn 2025.

After braving the winds atop the Great Orme, we continued our journey along Marine Drive. When we reached The Rest and Be Thankful, we decided it was the perfect spot to pause for a warm drink. Stepping out of the car was an adventure in itself, with the wind still howling around us. Thankfully, the coffee was steaming hot, and the cake proved to be a delicious reward.

The Great Orme for today's #StandingStoneSunday - this is Hwylfa’r Ceirw ('High Road of the Deer'), a double stone row of mostly small stones, leading downhill from a square enclosure. Double rows are a rarity in Wales, much more commonly found on Dartmoor.

The Orme is a headland of predominantly limestone, and has some great prehistoric monuments, including the wonderful mines.
