Neujahrs-Tröt 🎆

Ich bin seit gestern Abend krank und habe mich trotzdem bis zur totalen Erschöpfung durch GHULbenchmark gearbeitet.
Ergebnis: Das Tool ist jetzt so umgestellt, dass es bei älteren NVIDIA-Grafikkarten automatisch nouveau nutzt.

Und ja:
NVIDIA unter Linux macht weiterhin Kopfschmerzen.

Die neue Generation der sogenannten „open“ Treiber funktioniert exklusiv ab RTX 20xx.
Ob das wirklich „open“ ist – oder nur open im Namen – wird sich erst noch zeigen.

Für Legacy-Hardware gilt jedenfalls:
Office, Dev, Alltag → okay
Gaming → eher nicht

Linux kann das noch -
NVIDIA will es nicht mehr.

#NVIDIA on #Linux, documented.

Same hardware. (ASUS laptop)
Same Arch-based distros.
Same day.

Before reinstall:
proprietary driver available.
After clean reinstall:
driver path gone.

Reason:
NVIDIA’s “open kernel modules” exist — but only for #RTX.

Older #GPUs are excluded from the maintained stack.
Arch simply reflects upstream policy.

Support ends, hardware still works.
Replacement encouraged.

Open #drivers for older GPUs were possible.
They were not provided.

This is not a configuration issue.
This is vendor strategy.

Today, I’m officially done dealing with this.

I’m currently building GHUL (Gaming Hardware Using Linux) — a bilingual, open-source Linux gaming & benchmarking project.

This video is not finished yet. Some segments are intentionally left open for surreal / AI-assisted visuals and pacing experiments.

GHUL update – frontend work in progress 🧪📊

Right now I’m developing the GHULbenchmark GUI locally on my own machine.
The focus is not “pretty graphs”, but measurement correctness.

The visualizer already detects sensor glitches (they always happen),
marks them as outliers, and filters them out for calculations and analysis –
so averages, peaks and ratings stay meaningful.

This is slowly turning into a real measurement lab instead of a gaming dashboard.
First impression attached. More to come.

Here’s some context for #GHULbenchmark:

Most tools show synthetic numbers — #GHUL measures real heat, real load, real sensors. Hardware doesn’t die from FPS; it dies from thermals, VRAM hotspots, and PSUs begging for mercy. 🔥💀

Fun fact from RDNA4 testing: the new “silent” fan feature is a silent killer. VRAM hits 90°C, hotspot follows, fans chill at 46% (BIOS-enforced).
GHUL would cook the card instantly if I hadn’t added emergency shutdowns.

Uploads aren’t required — real nerds test locally first, then send a PR when something explodes or a sensor speaks folklore. 😄

AMD & NVIDIA supported; Intel ARC is next.
