Since the Firefox Dev account vanished to me (I'm blocked? Don't know, don't care.)
The State of Mozilla - Wow, that's glomping onto politics in a disturbing way.
Reading...
"We’re at a fork in the road.
AI is here, and has started to define how we search, create, communicate — and how the web itself works. Some of you love AI, but want it to work better for yourselves and society. Some of you hate it, and don’t want any of it.
We get it."
Yay, you heard us. I'd flip the some on "hate it" to most of us, but keep going.
"We also know, as Mozilla, that the future is being decided now. The big tech players are racing to lock down and control AI, and make sure it works on their terms, not ours."
Oh. You're ready to abandon users to adopt AI. That's unfortunate. I'm good, go chase that Venture Capitalist nonsense.
Cory Doctorow called this behavior out already, called TINA. (He didn't coin this neologism, someone else did, but it is a key practice of Enshittification.) "There Is No Alternative." This is starting a loaded conversation where Mozilla will conclude (no matter what you bring to the table) that the only way forward for any computing, media and society is by implementing AI.
There ARE alternatives. Billionaires won't acknowledge them. And soon, they won't support "going luddite" and ignoring AI, so the TechBro community better learn some soft skills FAST. Unplugging people from the Matrix isn't fair when the liberated are told to RTFM when leaving Big Tech services, learning how to self host or install Linux.
We've got a world to save, but without any friends from corporations or supposed "Internet Foundations" who serve the leopards who eat faces and not us.
