The river in the floodplain forest keeps changing its banks. On the right bank is the outside of the bend in the river, that's where the current steals the bank. The victim is this huge tree. This happens all the time in this landscape. Next time I'm going to take a closer look at this situation. The gravel exposed by the upheaval dates back to the early Quaternary.

Sad dawn scene: old farm shed with encroaching suburban development at the other side of the paddock. This is right on the floodplain at Bacchus Marsh. The town is not known for heavy rainfall, more the lack thereof, but floods will inevitably occur sooner or later. The houses are all built up a bit above ground level now, so the water they displace will make the damage worse at houses like mine that were built longer ago.
